$32/hr is not too bad, but not fantastic. In alberta that is lower mid class. Out oil section pays so many Ppl such crazy money (power engineers are making upwards of $75/hr plus ot plus bonus plus plus plus. It is reverse snobbism here, the blue collar workers make more than the university educated folks for the most part.
I am currently military and make aroung $65k and i can do things, own my own home, car etc. but my husband works as well. I certainly dont suffer. However, i am leaving the military to become a power engineer! Lol
I would say $40-45/hr would be an upper middle wage. Depends on how much overtime your get a week, if its camp living, bonuses, rrsp contributions, pensions, etc. lots of jobs start out with a base of say 60,000/yr but it is guarenteed to double if you add in all the other stuff.
Alberta does not have provincial sale tax and we are the lowest tax rate in canada. We do not pay an fees for health care, altho we used to pay $22/month. Dental coverage and perscritpion drugs are not included in the coverage and most ppl have some form of secondary healthcare thru work.
There are a to. Of new areas in edmonton, any of the new areas are pretty good. On the south side, south west is ritzy, central good, east less. On the north, west is decent to ritzy, central no way no how, far east good, middle east bad. Pretty generalistic. Lol.
As for schools... Are they taking any special programming now? I am looking at buying in edmonton as well. My son is currently in french immersion, the eps has few french immersion schools so i am picking a school then looking at houses. My own personal choice. There is also a thriving catholic school system and several charter schools.
