another option is a "quickie" program - get an LVN/LPN certificate - I know a lot of post-post-grad RN's who began their careers as LVN/LPN's, and then let their employers pay for them to become RN's, then MSN's, and DScN's... and I also know a few who then went to law school to become legal nurse consultants, professors of medical/legal ethics, etc...
also, there have cropped up quite a number of careers which need paralegal/nurses to evaluate, analyze and interpret medical records, accident reports, etc... I did it for a little while on a freelance/contract basis, and found it fascinating.

you young'úns REALLY truly do need to find ways to get your educations - it will make a huge difference in both your lives and your self-worth!! hugs!!

(PS - kwhite - what if you did a craigslist or other ad and found some potential renters, and brought the names with you to the landlord?)
What she said about the nursing stuff ^^^ my fathers hospital does this as I looked into it for awhile. I was getting my butt kicked by pre med, then realized I really wasn't getting my butt kicked THAT hard and ill be graduating in December. I've got some loans but because of the job outlook for a physician, I'm not worried about it. If I was in a not so promising major, I absolutely would avoid taking out any loans.

In nursing there are many many different routes where others will pay for your education entirely

Kate - how much does wedding photographers, charge in your area.
- lets say, +/-$1000 for a full Saturday
Could you do this one dlay/weekend, for like +$500 cash (using all free digital format) ??
- and build up a clientele, using a skill set/gift you embrace

I also hate hate my job as a litigation paralegal, it wasn't so bad at first but now I just detest it. Everybody always trying to get anything they can out of someone, just out of greed, a lot of it.

I'm doing my best to get things worked out with financial aid, but I'm waiting on them at this point.

I do not know how helpful this might be, but what do your Armed Forces offer in terms of further education? In the UK you can be sponsored by the Armed Forces to attend University or Medical School the only proviso is that you promise to give them x amount of years after graduation. It might not be an option, but hey, they provide you with food, a roof over your head and training and when you come out, you are your own man/woman. No student loans, no bank loans taken out to pay for tuition and the like.

It is just a thought, my Grandson is considering this route at the moment. He cannot afford to go on to further education, student loans are hard to come by in the UK, even harder here in Spain. But the forces are still recruiting.
Yes, an RN is a registered nurse and considering my family situation the military isn't really an option for me, especially considering my dogs but if I didn't have any ties or anything holding me here I would most definitely consider it.

Bless your heart, and no that doesn't say anything awful about you, its just what happened and those situations are hard.

My DH does the same thing, complianing about everything out of frustration. We got into it the other day b/c he was just being a butt, grumpy, ill complaining and I told him he had no reason to complain, that I was the one working my butt off at a job I hate, while he spends gas money we don't have to go in the woods and put tree stands up. I further told him that from now on, unless he's working he needs to come up with his own gas money or stay home. He got really pissed at me. Come to find out, he had gone out and again re-applied for several jobs. Nothing is coming through for him though. And I agree with DR, give him a small toy or a little extra physical attnetion, that'll get his mind off of whatever he's being a baby about.

I am doing the community college RN program with the plans to then work at UAB after I graduate and pass boards. So long as I keep my gpa up they will then accept me into their BSN program and should also pay for it. The rule is if you work at UAB (the college or the hospital), then they pay for your education there. So, that's my goal, we shall see if it happens. Considering I will have to quit my job completely to do the program I'm pretty overwhelmed with it all at this point.

If you all remember I lost my job back in August and it has been a slippery slope ever since and I've been struggling with a lot. I've become slightly depressed, anxiety attacks have increased, sleeping issues, very irritable and just all around miserable. I feel like I've had a string of bad luck and I'm at my breaking point. I live in one of the most expensive counties in the country and to say money is tight is an understatement, especially after Diesel's abscess scare and the flooding from Hurricane Sandy. I'm working two jobs to the point of exhaustion and it still doesn't feel like enough or that I'm ever going to catch a break.

I was raised to work hard and do what you need to survive and stuff all your feelings way down inside of you. I am doing my best but I keep failing and it's not enough. I've faced eviction because I had to use rent money to fix our apartment. My drivers side door of my car decided that it no longer wants to open. I had to put my photography business on hold which crushed me. I'm working as an assistant manager at a place where I used to be the general manager and I hate that (I'm almost 23 and the GM is 19 ) I've had to buy food for Diesel over food for myself. Diesel's 1st birthday is this coming Saturday and I can't even get him a good gift. I can't celebrate thanksgiving or help decorate for christmas with my family because I can't afford to take time off or afford what it costs in gas to see them. My SO went from working 30 hours a week to 60 to help pay the bills. My SO's birthday is also on the 23rd and I don't think I can get him a gift nor do I think I can afford christmas gifts this year. My savings account has been drained. I'm in debit with all my credit cards and the list goes on. I know it doesn't seem bad and there are people who have it much worse then me. I try to remind myself of that but it doesn't seem to make it any easier.

My heart is breaking. I never wanted to live like this or want this life for my family. We went from living the good life and being pretty well off to basically poor overnight. It's been extremely hard. I've been trying to keep it together and not let it bother me but reality is starting to set it. I'm working 12-15 hour days and busting my ass to do whatever I can to keep us a float but I feel alone doing it. None of my friends get it because they all fully have the support of their family. My family doesn't understand it but we won't get into that. Thank goodness for Diesel. He has been the light in my life. I'd be completely lost without that big ball of goofiness. He's the reason I am doing what I do...

I'm not a huge fan of making a bad situation worse and, as someone who is your age and working multiple jobs, I also get where you're coming from and what you're going through. That being said, and please correct me if I"m wrong, but with all of this that you've posted above, especially what I've highlighted, why are you getting a new puppy in a matter of weeks if you cannot afford things like time off for the holidays, gas to see your family, and saying that money is tight is an understatement? Also I imagine that this puppy, being a working-bred puppy, would be extra difficult since you're working two jobs to the point of exhaustion already. Not to mention that Diesel just turned a year old. He's still a baby himself.

And this...

And this...
Considering that, that is really none of anyone's business and considering you know NOTHING about the circumstances with that I suggest maybe you mind your own business. If you care to know the full story behind that then you can PM me and I will explain it all. This is not your typical, oh I just spent thousands of dollars on something, no that's not the case. New things have come up. New plans have been made. No money was spent once so ever so maybe you should get the facts before you begin to point out things you know nothing about.

I could say the same about your Ruthless as well... but do I no because there was a whole story behind that.

You're right, I don't know the story. Still, it was posted on the internet and it was shocking to see. Maybe I should have PM'd you but things like that tend to involve many circular arguments that either 1) don't end or 2) end because the person who was called out blocks the other.

More dog is more money, no matter how you spin it, and you seem to be very strapped for cash.
A working-line puppy is especially more work from everything I hear and you are, admittedly, working to the point of exhaustion.
Maybe I overstepped because yoo came into a huge amount of money, or something, and no longer need work or school in order to support yourself, your dogs, and your SO.

If you're talking about badly timed decisions, you'd be grasping for straws.
If you're talking about how some things come up and surprise you then yes, you could say the same, but Ruthie wasn't obtained on the tail-end of a financial and personal crisis.

Sorry, but have I missed something here, I am sure no one wants to cause distress to anyone, especially over something that is surely a misinterpretation.

Lets not quarrel please.

Everyone knows your "business" because you posted it online in a public forum.

Someone suggesting you make a wise financial decision is not an attack since you have said you can barely make ends meet.

I am obviously not in the loop at all. I was coming on to give encouragement and say we have all probably been there at one time. I was going to share a story about when my hubby and I were so broke trying to feed our kids and he had holes in his shoes he had to put plastic bags in them to keep his feet dry. I cried my eyes out and he told me one day we will laugh about this.

And he was right....we are older now, live in a beautiful home, 2 cars and a boat. But we always remember that time and we worked our asses off to get out of that place and not go back so this too shall pass.

But I'm lost about the other dog.

Seriously? As in planning to get a puppy? As in on purpose getting a puppy? I might have just lost my sympathy for her, if this is the case.

I knew I was stupid for bringing Leo home when the last thing I needed was another mouth to feed, but at least that was a spur-of-the-moment decision, made to keep her from getting killed in traffic.

Yes, drama and high school like at that, especially your post on facebook.

And is she really? who said anything was set in stone? how would you know? again none of you know the facts......

Honestly it's nobodies business, did she post lots of details, personal ones at that, on here? yes, but what she didn't say maybe wasn't said for a reason. "Sleuthing" people digging up half facts they think they fully understand just to stir the pot is exactly why at least one thread a day on this flippin forum fishtails into one big soap opera mess.

Honestly I graduated high school and some times I wonder if I'm the only one.....
Also, those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, let's not pretend a good portion of us on here haven't/aren't/won't be hiding things from the forum/other members while chastising others for similar things...

Wow, this went in a weird direction I wasn't expecting. Seriously, what's going on?

Edit: i went back and re read thread. I don't see anything about a new puppy?
