My other half typically has a bit of stubble but will trim it into goatee. Well he used to do a goatee until he realized one side was thinner than the other so havent seen that in a while.
Personally, ZZTop takes my vote

| I wish I could do the ZZ Top!!
I couldn't handle the feeling of being dirty any longer, it was just the hair on my cheeks that was driving me insane. Shampood AND conditioner makes it feel awesome but still not clean.
Question: So I got a hair straightener (lol). I've read conflicting points of view...it says to clean and dry your hair before using the iron. But some people are saying to put a little olive oil through the hair after...other people are saying the olive oil will ruin the straightness and will make it stink...is it really necessary for any after care?
Grose, I'm seeing a hotdog stuffed crust pizza above this reply box...

If anything I have leave in mousse/conditioners, serums, or they even make spray on heat protectants for just this reason.
Also, unless you got a wet/dry straightener make sure it's dry! all the way! or your just asking for damage and poof city! lol
Conditioning it is great but make sure you have the right conditioner, if they make beard conditioner i'd get that, if not remeber your beard is coarser, dryer, and imo takes more damage than hair can. So a replenishing/repairing/hydrating conditioner would be better than your average or something geared otherwise.
Just a girl perspective on hair

| There is a decent amount of beard products on amazon. Bluebeards gets a lot of good reviews, but I have not used it, YET lol. I bought a Clubman moustache grooming kit for like $15 and its pretty freaking nice to be able to groom the "stache." I usually just put some pomade in my beard though, when trying to look presentable. |

| So, Dave (my DH's name, too)... haven't checked here for a while... I really liked the look of the first photo - you looked not only handsome, but sensitive... the second photo - I thought the squared off sculpted look was a bit too severe and hard for my taste (then again, I'm old, and a forever hippie, so what the heck do I know?) Our son (about to turn 31) has had a moustache/goatee for probably 12 years or so - he always keeps it trimmed pretty short - I think he, too, would feel scuzzy if it got long or unruly..... but I gotta say, I never heard of moussing or ironing a beard!! My sisters and I used to iron our hair back in the 60's, but I think man hair is best when it's as nature made it. I'm such an old fart.

| I wanted to do the full beard, I really did. I liked the look but I couldn't get past the uncleanly feeling. Before I trimmed off the sides I was almost suffering! I dealt with that feeling for a couple weeks hoping it would feel better but alas...I caved in.
I have a whole new respect for those with long full beards.
Let me tell you though, after using the hair straightener....my beard....is...ridiculously....soft. The hair is still to short to get good results with it but it did loosen up the bushiness.
It's Nov 22nd right? Girl who works behind me is listening to Christmas music already...someone please save my beard but shoot me dead!

| My dh has had a beard for over 30 years. I've only seen him clean shaven as a high school student & once when he was 20.
He says he looks too friendly with no beard, so it's not an option.
My bil - clean shaven - says that people treat him differently when he has a beard. He gets better service from salespeople without one.
I'm a fan of the trimmed cheeks & neck look. I also don't think you should go too long, it starts to look unkempt, no matter what you do.

| hahaha I am loving this thread! One of the reasons you could feel gross is because you keep touching it (this could be misconstrued in SO many ways LOL). When you keep touching it, all the grease and dirt from your hands gets all through your beard.
I am LOL-ing at you being so impressed with how soft your hair is after using a straightener and that you went out and bought a straightener.
It is Movember afterall so why not keep growing it.
One word of caution- lol- my bro would grow a beard off and on and he drools when he sleeps- he has kind of glued his lips shut once or twice LOL. He also drooled on his baby when he was sleeping with him LMAO.

Seriously, I did touch it...a lot, but I also wash my hands frequently. that's what she said!
The straightener is SA-WEET!! I was driving to work this morning with my car windows wide open (because for whatever reason it's 15 degrees outside ) and the beard was flapping in the wind a little. I got a bit excited because I've shaved my head for so many years now that I've lost count and completely forgot how it felt.
I made a drunken oath with a friend that we cannot shave, I was only able to trim the sides because his hair is spotty and he can't grow any there...the chin area is forbidden however. So I will be growing it for quite some time. Wouldn't want to waste the $20 I just spent on the straightener....just wish I could have found one that DIDN'T HAVE PINK ON IT!

| Ok so it's probably on an angle from me being unable to stop fiddling with it...the straightener really put some length to it though.

| Dave_L - a few facial hair examples, for your consideration:
- son with the heavy 5 o'clock man shadow
- Dad more the kfc colonel sanders look // but dressed in black
^^^^ We are flooded with complements...take your pick, either one will be a winner (for you)...LOL cool

| Hmm, I don't like the straightned beard. I liked it on you before that though. I don't like the pointy goatee thing, reminds me too much of Lucifer or some such....

| When my other half got out of the army, he swore he wouldn't shave for 6 months.
He got pretty 'Mountain Man' looking! http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...21605079_n.jpg
He kept the beard overall but now keeps it trimmed so it looks nicer, more like he does here:
As for me, I have the opposite view as brw. I prefer he either keep it clean shaven or grow it out long enough to be soft. I can't stand stubble - it's too scratchy! I don't need my face exfoliated every time I go to kiss my man! ;P
Also, all this beard talk reminds me of the The Very Secret Diary of Aragorn, Son of Arathorn
Stubble update: looking v. manly. Still not King.
PS, Dave, I liked the 7weeks pic on you better than the semi-goatee, personally. But it's your beard, do what makes YOU happy with it. I don't listen when people tell me to cut my hair - it'd be hypocritical of me to tell someone else what to do with theirs!

| hahaha. No worries. I know not everyone are into beards and I've gotten lots of mixed opinions about it, mostly good ones. It'll be better once it's in the 6-8 inches long category.
I can't give up on it now though, I'm not a quitter.
