| Ok tattoo people, I need help. I have a tattoo I want, but i don't know where to put it, aside from on the front of my body and not in the black box area on the below picture i'd love suggestions.
I was originally thinking collar bone, and still want one/two there but it just didn't look right, split onto each side nor together on just one... hmm
oh and p.s. in case you weren't sure and since it matters, i'm a girl
This is the tatoo:
the body diagram lol:
I've also always wanted this one but never known where I would put it (this is the google image pic, i edited it some when i first found it) http://images.google.com/imgres?q=cu...9,r:0,s:0,i:98

| How big did you want it? That's going to make the most difference when it comes to placement, because you only have a certain amount of space outside your black box area.
(I was wondering how tough you are because my first thought was down your side, but my niece says it hurts! However, that's off limits...)
Maybe your left arm? (you should probably check the symbolism that might go with it, but I was thinking that this tattoo is closer to your heart?) Depending on how much body art you are going to want, you could go shoulder to elbow for the first part & elbow to wrist for the rest. Or, if you were going to have it a little smaller, they could go one line above the other on the inside of your arm? I think it's too long to do as a bracelet or armband. (or two?) If it fit, I think it would make an awesome upper arm band.
I'm biased, I really don't like tattoos on legs. There is just something odd about them.
My perspective is that of a 50 year old mom of 2 girls, neither of whom have tattoos. One of my clients is a company owned by straight edge guys so I see & know people who do have tattoos. I like colours & pretty tattoos better than black.

Kate | I don't ink anything without signifigant meaning to me if i'm gonna go through the pain, expense, and be stuck with it forever, it needs to mean a lot to me.
Preferabbly nothing more than a 4" square or 8" long roughly, but in the right spot I could be easily swayed lol, as I have it layed out now (not the way it is above) it makes a 5" long and 2.5" high rectangle (if put into a box)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have a three leaf clover, pic below, on my right wrist
plan a tree on the top of my foot/front of my ankle on the right side that eventually will "branch off" and wrap around my leg with my childrens names(pic below)
and an anklet with pawprints and flowers and the word unforgettable on my left ankle. (pic on diff computer)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The pain on the wrist I wouldn't even call pain it was just annoying, mostly on the tendon.
my current: roughly a 2" square
this is the tree: measured out in a square it'll be 3.25 " x 3.25"

| Why not one phrase on each shoulder (facing forward on your chest, or maybe on your shoulder proper facing outward), or one on the front of your upper chest one one side or the other and the other one on your back in the same place on the other side of your body (if this makes sense).
OR on top of your shoulders on each side, almost like shoulder-pads (eeek!)

| Based on your size options, I'd suggest your inner forearm if you decide to have it 8 inches long, or your bicep if you want it 4 inches square. You could see it easier on your forearm if you wanted the positive reinforcement on a regular basis.
I get & like the symbolism of the tree, but it doesn't appeal to me otherwise. (It doesn't fit into 'my' pretty definition, but if we all thought alike the world would be boring.)

I tried the one side too and I like it more just not sure about it... definate no to the shoulder pads lol! Quote:

Kate | I'm strongly considering an inner left arm, just not sure on how i'd want to do it, and if i like the idea for me! I know I think it looks great on zeldarules though, hmmm two options so far
Thanks for your views on the tree, it's so rare that you find someone who isn't "i love it" or "thats stupid". I do plan to maybe add some flowers too it with the names, but traditional feet and handprints walking all over me is not my thing

I could potentially move the anklet to my other wrist as a bracelet and wrap the quote around my ankle and onto my foot but I feel like I want it in a more often visible spot, like a daily reminder...
I feel so picky lol but really do appreciate all the options guys, i may so no now and have it "click" later

| One phrase around the top curve of your biceps, the other around the bottom of that muscle on one arm---
( shoulder)
----------laugh.....
( biceps)
----------love....
<elbow____________hand
or above the biceps curve, one phrase on each arm.

The forearm is kinda really growing on me, just have to think from a somewhat future jobs perspective too, granted workplaces seem to be opening up, and makeup cannnnn cover all

| As far as workplaces go, plan on wearing long sleeves to your interviews. Then dress according to the workplace rules after that.
(The dumbest looking tattoo I've seen was a shoulder that wasn't taken into account when a wedding dress was purchased. It was partially covered & looked foolish.)

Kate | Good thing we're coming into winter that'll make it easy, I do know it's not as visible a spot as it seems, i learned that with my wrist, unless holding a dog on its side, you rarely are exposing it to people.
Thanks for the helpful tip!
P.S.
there's never a crayola marker when you need one! Permanent marker might be a bit much for drawing on a mock version haha

| My thoughts..
I think the text would look very pretty and feminine in script and where my kurt halsey cat is on my shoulder blade. The text would look nice when you wear a top like this or a strapless dress.
Here are some examples of pretty script..
You could also put the text in a banner and do something like this:
and there's always the feet!:
I know you want to see the text often so it's a constant reminder, but it would be nice as well to have it on your shoulder blade and make you smile when you see it every now and then.
I would totally put the little cow behind the ear like where this person's star is:
...and lastly, tattoos are for you and no one else. When I started getting tattoos my mom said I would ruin my wedding pictures. Well, I love her, but we are all individuals and my wedding is MY day, not hers.

| My original thought skimming was one on each wrist.... then I saw the clover (very nice btw)
Second thought was the ribcage, kinda like the one Megan Fox has (but that is in the black box area)
Final thought
I really don't like chest tattoos on women (just preference) but I think scripting would be nice. And the scripting you are doing works real well
Over one side of your collar bone you have your lungs (breath) the other side is your heart (love)
ALSO I TOTALLY agree with this Quote:

I do deeply agree with your last part, but it's just a natural fear of mine I guess, regardless if i fall in love with it in a highly visible place I'll still do it
I love the idea for the cow! and the banner is a neat idea, i'll have to give that some thought as far as style and placement, so far feet are somewhat taken up lol, unless I bump the anklet to my wrist and wrap this quote around my ankle and my foot in a banner style. Quote:

Over one side of your collar bone you have your lungs (breath) the other side is your heart (love) i'm picky about what I like on the collarbone/chest area as well, My inital thought was your idea, but when i layed it out on myself i just didn't like it, i think i'd prefer a design there versus words. Love! the meaning you found in placement though Thanks for the script compliment, I spent 20 min trying to find one that was cursive but simple and not overdone and was very clean.

| Ok so i've decided!
Forearm, in the above font (not what's in the first pic , but yes to the other)with a scroll in the gap...finding a nice simple one was a lot harder than you'd think!
this is the placement I want
this is the scroll, and the fonts i, using (the scroll will be more proportional )

| I really like your choice. I have a lot of tattoos, including script that goes from elbow to elbow across my shoulders. I did what you did and placed it everywhere until I found that perfect spot. I did sometimes regret getting some of my tattoos (this was before I started my sleeve - and why!!) because of being banished to long sleeves all year round (its 20-40 degrees in Ottawa during the summer) since I work in a bank and could lose my job if the right person complains. Just remember that scripting, though very pretty and especially meaningful to you, is still something that has to be covered up, a lot more than a small wrist tattoo.
Ps I've really glad to see you've moved away from the collar bone - I find them very hard to cover and people for some reason tend to judge a lot harder.

Sent from my iPhone using PG Free | Thanks I always invest a lot of time (two years for the first) into making sure i'm 100% happy about what I want and where.
I actually wanted collar bone initially and still do because it is one of the easier spots to hide, among other reasons, currently I wear scrub tops so It'd be hidden.
Uhg that sucks you have to cover it up, i think i'd go to makeup before sleeves here if it was warm out. Thankfully I have a relatively accepting work place, deff be covering it for interviews until i find out whats required though

| I like it! The fit works well & it looks good on 4 lines.
(Just to clarify, the wedding dress didn't work with the tattoo, not the other way around. The dress had wide straps & covered the centre of the tattoo. Would have been much better with no straps, or one shoulder bare instead of the partial coverage. It looked as if the bride was trying to cover it & not succeeding.)

| I'm far too late to the thread but I like the placement that you decided. I probably would have done it there, shoulder blade, or on my foot.

| I always find placement of a tattoo far harder to decide then content but I haven't really got anything "meaningful" on me just designs that I liked at the time but where I put them was always a thought out process. I like it on your inner forearm but I am kinda liking the inner bicep at the mo. Where Gaga has one of hers. I never thought that would like nice on a woman but she manages to pull it off!
I want to rework one of my tat's but I am trying to figure out what I want and then have to convince my hubby that what is another tattoo in the grand scheme of things, I won't be getting another one really because I will be reworking an old one lol
As for covering up tattoos, I have one on my wrist too and one of my employers tried to get me to cover it up with a blue plaster and I refused! Its not offensive in design and its against my human rights of being able express myself. I never play the HR card but had to insist that time. Plus I had people asking me if I was self harming. I would rather offend someone with my tattoo then get asked that ever again!! |

Wow! see my current boss has openly said she thought it was stupid I got it (her "class" is lacking to put it lightly) but never told me to cover it up or anything. I'd certainly be mad if i wasn't given the choice of how to cover it up at very least. Mine to is very unoffensive...i mean it's just a clover. and it of all the tattoos I want/have holds some of the deepest meaning, it's one of the few shared heritages of my grandparents with the initals for my mothers family as well as my fathers. They died when I was young so it means a huge deal and to be told so offensively to cover it up would make me pretty mad!
