My mom tried it first and once she smelled how awesome it is and saw how great it cleaned, I had to give it a shot. The entire batch took about 15 minutes to mix together I'm hooked! There are other recipes for liquid detergent but I think it's a bit more involved and the powder works just fine. With two little boys and the dog, I do a ton of laundry! This is going to save a lot of money

| I just made my first batch (it's the liquid one) a couple of months ago and am still using it. It is awesome and a HUGE money saver. I never thought that I would switch from Tide, but I gave this a shot and love it! |

| Wow, thanks for sharing this info. I love stuff like this and I'm going to try it. I add Borax to every load to freshen the wash any way.

| Do you know if this is okay to use in an HE washer? I do a lot of laundry, and this sounds interesting, but you need low sudsing stuff for them.

| I did some searching, cause I have a HE washer too. The consensus seems to be that homemade laundry soap doesn't make suds, so it's OK. Not sure if the manufacture's warranty would be honored, though.

| Yup, no suds so it is totally fine for an HE washer Near the bottom of the link and in the comments section it is discussed as working great in HE machines.

| You guys who are making it be sure and post what you thought Everyone I know is making it and so far they love it! The only negative I've found is that it smells SO good that I find myself actually wanting to do more laundry

| Is it really that good?
Funny story about laundry smells. My husband is a stinky Marine. He came home one day and said "Babe, as much as I don't want to be a girl, I just LOVE changing out of my flight suit to a shirt that smells like a spring time flower."
Lets just say he has to do a smell test on all our laundry soap and softener before I buy it! |

I want it to smell clean but not super floral or fake. This is like the best clean cotton smell you can imagine...it cleans great and everything comes out very soft but the smell is by far my favorite thing about it.

| Awesome! Now I'm excited. I've been using vinegar to get the fuel and grease smell out of his clothes. |

My toddler has sensitive skin so I just used one and it's perfect imo.

Personally I used a soap called "fels-naptha". It is found in the laundry section of most every wal-mart. It's very cheap at around .94 cents a bar.

| I'm planning on giving it a whirl this week. I need to wait until the kids go back to school, though, otherwise I'll have "help" that will be less than helpful. I'm planning on using the naptha soap. That's what my mom used for stuff she hand-washed, lo these many years ago.

It's easier to find.

| I really love mine. It smells like mens cologne. It definitely helps me sleep while my husbands gone, plus my clothes are super soft and clean.
I gave about half of mine to the barracks to keep in their laundry room, no one likes smelly Marines hahaha |

My sister and I are going to put some in jars with a ribbon and the recipe to give to our kid's teachers for Christmas. It's an inexpensive gift that's usable and everyone needs laundry detergent. One batch of it should make more than enough to give away to all of the teachers, neighbors, etc that I never know what to get them.
