| My hubby started a blog for anyone that's interested in astronomy. He'll put the articles he writes there as well as some other observations and stories as he gets going. Front Yard Astronomy

| Hi ... I grew up in NY City, and spent many, many happy hours at the Planetarium, plus we had a house out in the country, where we could see all the stars. DH & I lived for years in the country in upstate NY (and I also went to college there), and the stars - and aurora borealis - were magnificent... and you could see the Milky Way. Then we moved to California, to the suburbs - we had 2 telescopes, but between light pollution and the marine layer, you really had to drive out to the desert to see anything. So now we are back out in the middle of nowhere, and it is so wonderful to once again see the Milky Way and all the constellations, meteor showers, etc. It's so true that people in congested areas have NO idea what they are missing!

| Just wondering if your hubby got to see comet Panstarrs. I am so disappointed because it has been cloudy, cloudy, cloudy here in PA.

He was really hoping to try and get some pictures of it!

| That is really cool! I've always loved astronomy!
I watched the series "How the Universe Works" on Discovery (I think?), and asked for the DVD set for Christmas. It's so fascinating!

| That was a big problem in Sandy Eggo ... every time there was a spectacular astronomical event, it was guaranteed that it would either be cloudy, or that the marine layer would come further inland or stay later than usual... we missed so many eclipes, meteor showers, etc... and I think we got to see Hale-Bopp through the clouds. Next year there will be a comet passing very close to Mars. Now that we're out in the high desert, and the sky is so incredibly gorgeous, I wish we still had our telescopes. Phooey!!

| It may stay clear for us tonight, he's hoping to get it! If he can't get a clear view of the western sky, he may just go for the Orion Nebula. I'll post pictures if he gets anything!

| Remember the solstice lunar eclipse a couple of years ago? I missed it. I stayed outside, waiting..... watching the eclipse get closer and closer.... and the clouds get closer and closer.... and.... the clouds won. I caught a few fleeting glimpses of it, and that was all. I was so sad.

| Drew couldn't get a clear view of the western sky for the comet last night, but he did get some great pictures of the Orion Nebula. Here's one of my favorites.
He didn't do any enhancements on it other than adjusting the saturation and hue. I think he's starting to get the hang of it!

| New article on hubby's blog, I'm happy to say I can take credit at least in part. He couldn't decide what to write about so I recommended he write about some of his experiences so far with astrophotography. Enjoy! Front Yard Astronomy: Group Photo: Using Astrophotography for Public Outreach
