Bengal Cats

Does anyone here own/have owned bengal cats. If so what are you thoughts and experiences with them?

I love Bengals

Bengals are great cats. They are much like dogs in personality. Here's a picture of Drago's best friend, Valor.

Unfortunately, he's been missing for a couple of months now. I'm not yet ready to get another cat but it will be another bengal that's for sure.

My neighbors have one, Tuvok. He's an indoor/outdoor kitty, so we see him a lot. I'm not a huge cat person, (but I do love all animals) but this guy I'd adopt in a second if I didn't have a parrot and he needed a home! I love him! He had to get to know us - but once he knows you, he'll pad up to you and then just flip on his back, asking for a belly rub. Yep, he asks for belly rubs. He is extremely affectionate, and is just a cool little guy. His gait is very panther-like, and his fur shines gold flecks in the sun. He is very composed and seems intelligent... He is definitely a hunter.

His tail, I'm not sure but think it was an accident- is not a short bob, but a longer crooked bob. Possibly broken as a baby?

His eyes are a gorgeous color...

Hey, what's up? Wanna pet me? (Can kind of see the gold flecks in this one.)

Beautiful cats! and those are great pics too.

In my experience from working at a feline-only practice, Bengals are very expressive and smart cats. At home, they are affectionate, bright, and playful - but at the vet clinic, they are holy terrors. o_O

Barn63, do you have any experience with Bengals? What draws you to the breed?

What beautiful cats! Since I have 4...........I have no more room for any more. As each of my feline buddies pass on......I would like to get down to a more manageable 2. They are 12, 6, 5, 3. SO hopefully we have many more years together.

Here's my 5 year old fatty trying to fit into a LARGE shoebox...
(rudi is in the background next to JJ's right ear.....watching out for his buddy)

What a beautiful cat and I love his color. I can see the gold flecks in the other pic.

Used to raise bobtails and the tails come in all lengths and shapes, including that cute little twist he's got. Some of mine the vet accused me of cutting off cause that is the way they looked with no joint or anything. Then he had to do a c-section on one and found out I was telling him the truth--they were born that way.

Dang I wish I wasn't so allergic to cats. I would love to have a bobtail bengal like that.:confused2

Interesting, Linda! I wonder if the bobtail is common with the Bengals... I didn't think so, but maybe it does happen (like I said I know very little about cats.) Is it like a dominant/recessive thing, and do all cat breeds have the potential to put out bobtail babies?

I personally love bobbed tails!

Well I have always wanted a bengal cat but never had the money to get one. Just a cat breed I have always admired.

I don't have one but did look into getting one years ago. It was before I could afford one so I ended up with a rescue and I am happy that I did. My girl is now 10 1/2 and still to young at heart. I still might get a bengal as my other cat Pharoh passed away about 2 years ago and Pepper really needs a buddy. She still does not consider Jada her buddy.

I never understood the genetics of it. I would get bobtails and longtails, notails, whether my females were bred to bobtails or longtails.
If the bengal was crossed with say a manx you would get the bobtails or notails and probably longtails too. I was figuring this one was a manx cross back there, but I don't know if there was ever such a cross, just guessing.
I would say any breed could produce bobtails with a mutated gene, which has to be where it all started. Probably very rarely tho.
The bobtails have hips that will usually be higher than normal and tremendous personalities, mine were usually scared of nothing. But I thought that was a bad thing.

Inheritance is fairly well explained here http://www.steynmere.com/ARTICLES1.html the article relates to developing a natural bob tail/erect ears in boxers.

Also on a previous question many different breeds were/can be used to create bengals, each breed is chosen by the various 'desirable' traits. The first crossing of a ALC and a domestic cat is considered a f1 hybrid. This site explains more of the history of the breed development. http://www.bengalkittens.org/bengal.html

On a side note several newer cat breeds (ragdolls, ragamuffins, munchkins, cozykittens etc.) are being developed by breeders. CFA like AKC is hesitant to register the newer 'designer' breeds but usually accepts them for registration after enough documented generations of breeding hybrid to hybrid consistantly produces kittens that look like the parents (long after TICA and others)

I've got a Bengal. He can go from sweet loving ball of purr to holy terror in .001 seconds

He's the best cat I've even been owned by, hands down the best. He's sweet, loving, playful, attentive, demented, insane, active, and way to smart for my own good.

Sweet baby boy:

Holy terror

(The larger greyer cat is a Bengal/Oriental mix)

This is the second old thread you've knowingly resurrected and the OP of this thread hasn't logged on in at least 4 years. Instead of resurrecting more threads to share information with inactive users why not create your own thread on Bengals?

Personally, I adore Bengals (would own one if I could afford the purchase price/initial upkeep) and would love to learn more about them as well as seeing pictures.

That would be my guess considering she has resurrected every bengal thread on the forum to mention that she is a breeder, the name of her cattery is very prominent in her posts, and her username and title underneath that. Subtlety is apparently not a virtue lol...
