Flowering trees. Finally.... Most trees have not even started to leaf. Grey, wet and fugly. McCoy has had a serious case of SAD for months.

Ugh!

some may think you are lucky to have only one 'season'.

Not me though, I love all 4 of our seasons here on the bc west coast.

another sign of Spring just flew in... The Wood ducks are on the pond! Woohoo!

Everyone knows by now I don't do pictures but I have blooming daffodils, two kinds (and colors) of camillias, and day lilies (all sizes), are up, as are the dutch iris, bluebells, the big clump of asiatic lilies, camas lilies. hostas, all of the bearded iris that I divided and replanted all have new leaves, and the miniature iriis are definitely up and out of control.

And the lilac is just starting to put out leaves and bloom stalks. The huge old cherry in the back yard has a jillion buds but it is some sort of an old type and blooms much later than more modern varieties

I'm happy! And if there was any question about spring--I just paid the gas (heating) bill and it was half of what it was last month.

Beautiful photos. Makes me happy, too. My weeping redbud is is in bloom and if I can make myself trudge out in the rain and cold I will try and get a picture for you all.

another sign of Spring, a few days ago we had 3 different breeds of wild ducks stop by..

from left to right...Mallard Drake - Hooded Merganser Drake - Hooded Merganser Hen - Mallard Hen and a little lone Bufflehead Drake (black and white guy on the right) sorry picture is not the best I took it from the house, a ways from the pond.

and today the Wood Ducks came by, so cool.

Here she is. She doesn't look that happy in this wet rain either, but she is a bright spot in our yard this Spring. THis is the second year since planting.

news of our pond spread through the duck grapevine and now we get quite a few stopping by. the mallards have nested here for 3 years now and the wood ducks hatched out 3 babies last year.

but yes, it seems that the geese fly right over us.

put out the hummingbird feeder today, one buzzed me this morning.

@ Darkevs

Hummingbird feeder!?! LOL Between the hardy fuchsias and the rest of the flowering crap, we couldn't beat those little guys/gals off with a broom! They actually normally hang around all year. This was an exception. To cold, snowy and ugly. Hope to see them in a few weeks!

yah they can be a bit flighty.

We occasionally have a green wing Teal stop by and I am having trouble getting a photo as they are very timid ducks and will fly off if they catch sight of me.

One day I will get a duck blind built so I can get some closer pics.

Do you see Canvasbacks? I used to see them here at one of our park lakes. An occasional pintail and a few coots, but mostly mallards and the omnipresent geese.

And yellow headed blackbirds--I had only seen the red-winged kind before then. Just looked up both birds' ranges--yup, Colorado is the first state that Iíve lived in that would have had the yellow headed sort, but looks as if they are a western bird, so may be familiar to a lot of you.

We see red headed blackbirds once in a while, no yellow heads yet.

Duck breeds seen on the pond last year ....mallards, buffleheads, hooded mergansers, wood ducks, ring necks, blue winged teal, northern shoveler, American widgen and last year the mallard pair hatched 12 ducklings and the wood duck had 3 ducklings.

Did I say coot? I meant grebe--different head shape (flatter head which is sorta angular toward the back rather than rounded), a more curvy erect neck, and sitting lower in the water. For some reason the name “coot” always shows up first when I really mean to say grebe.
