| I only watched the last one because I knew it was from the WAE I ran last Saturday. This was a very young bitch who will most likely pass it when she is more mature. I believe she was only 20 months old and they have to be at least 18 months to go through it. After the aggressive stranger came out from behind my car (yes that is my car) she was just totally unprepared for what he did.... what you don't see is that as soon as he started to reteat, she recovered, went forward and barked at him. She did wonderful on everything else. She belongs to one of my club members and is her new agility dog - she made top 20 agility with her older girl several years in a row - I expect to see this girl in top 20 in another year or two.
We had an unbelievable pass rate - 18 Dobermans through and 14 passed - none of them were working Dobermans - most were show dogs. Of the 4 that did not pass, two of them had no problem with the aggressive stranger. The video you saw was the only dog that really decided that she did not want to be there - I was pleased that she recovered quickly. It is hard to tell in the video, but the aggressive stranger was really very good (he has working GSD's).

| It seems like all of the "strangers" did a very good job. I would LOVE if Athena could get her WAC once the time comes.
I've never seen the WAE in person, so these videos really showed me a lot. Seems like a very versatile and useful test.

| Travis-
There's a WAE listed for NC on November 15th. It is in conjunction with the Greater Monroe KC shows, in Concord, NC....at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center. Maybe that's not too far for you to go watch?
I'm debating making the trek and running Cheers and Rex through the WAE. I've never handled a dog in it, but did watch a few people go through it a year or so ago. It's a 5 hr drive....so depends if we finally get gasoline again in the southeast!! |

I've never seen the WAE in person, so these videos really showed me a lot. Seems like a very versatile and useful test. | It really is worth going to one just to watch. The test is designed to be increasing stressful so that by the time they get to the aggressive stranger, they will be fairly stressed ... depending on the dog. Having a good aggressive stranger is really key. If they are not aggressive enough then the dog will not take them seriously, but if they are TOO harsh on a dog that is not coming out and is clearly uncomfortable, it can really do a number on their head - especially if this is a dog that with a little bit of maturity will most likely pass in the future.
There was one dog that went through that almost pulled his owner over (a good friend of mine) trying to get that guy - he had never seen a person do that before and I think the aggressor was very glad he was wearing a protective sleeve... he almost had to use it . A few dogs this year decided to take a bite out of the umbrella.... which is why I have about 6 of those things - LOL!

| velmadobe- Cheers will be 2 on Oct 1st. Do you run 2 yr olds through that often, or should I wait until she's older and wiser? I don't have to enter her now.
Rex is 5 yrs old and may or may not take the threatening stranger seriously. He passed the CGC with flying colors, and not much bothers him in his environment....unless they run small animals through the field! I don't think he will retreat from the stranger, but he may not go off on him either. He generally puffs himself up and stands his ground if on the alert on lead. For all I know, he'll drag me off my feet like Petey....!! |
