It's dark, late and you hear breaking glass. You pull that people killer out of the closet and go down to investigate noises coming from the kitchen. You see a shadow, flip on the light, see something in a young mans hand and you pull the trigger...it happens in an instant. He's dead.
| He's an untrained idiot that knows nothing about proper and legal home defense.
Look, those of you that are preaching aren't going to change our minds and this thread wasn't started to be a debate over it. Bottom line, whether you agree with it or not, it's legal and I am well within my rights to own and use firearms for recreation at the range and personal defense if ever needed. Period.

| No guns, no guns, no guns. I have a family member who shot himself ....thank God he lived. No, the gun was not his. It was a family friend's. My mother came home from an errand to find my teenage brother lying in a pool of blood on our back porch.
I will never own nor tolerate a gun being in my home. Just had to add my own opinion and history with guns. I am from a military family; my father was a General in the US Army. |

| Why not surch the miami new web sites and then tell me there is no need to have home protection of some sort. EVERY DAY you hear breaking and entering, rape , and murder. And its not in the gettos, its in rich parts of town too. This morning on the news they had a 13 year old in jail for repeated gang rape and who knows what else. He is gonna get 5 life terms. I can go on and on why its important to be able to defend yourself one way or another. PERIOD. If you dont no one else will!!!! Sorry i will shut up now.

Do you think thirteen year olds should carry guns? What happened to her is very unfortunate, but does that mean every child in America should be packing heat? Lets be sensible here. After the VT shootings, I heard alot of people saying college kids should be allowed to carry guns to school. This is asinine, I happen to be 23 and I know the mental capacity of kids my own age, I shudder to think what would happen if said kids got drunk at the campus pub, got into a fight, and instead of using fists, pulled out their guns. Personally, I would not go to school if I knew in a lecture of 200 students, my fellow students were strapped with AKs, Uzis and maybe a couple of grenades.
The people that say there should be NO gun control are living on middle earth, wheras the people that say NO guns should be allowed are living in Narnia. The truth lies in the middle, and in todays society, with insurance, way the legal system is set up etc... Sensible gun laws are necessary to keep guns in the hands of the responsible, not the dangerous.

Sensible gun laws are necessary to keep guns in the hands of the responsible, not the dangerous. | The Virginia Tech shootings bring up a couple of good points. I quoted this from Wikipedia - I know it's not the authority on all things, but I remembered hearing something about the shooter being unstable a long time before this happened and this is the most concise blurb I could find:
"In the aftermath of the Virginia Tech shootings, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine convened a panel consisting of various officials and experts to investigate and examine the response and handling of issues related to the Virginia Tech shootings. The panel released its final report in August 2007, devoting more than 30 pages to detailing Cho's troubled history. In the report, the panel criticized numerous failures—by school administrators, educators and mental health professionals who came into contact with Cho during his college years and who failed to notice his deteriorating condition and help him. The panel also criticized misinterpretations of privacy laws and gaps in Virginia's mental health system and gun laws. In addition, the panel faulted Virginia Tech administrators in particular for failing to take immediate action after the first shootings."
I also recall that upon investigation it looked like he should have never been sold a gun based on Virginia's laws. This is a major problem we have and I think more good would come from actually enforcing the laws we have on the books than making new laws. If we make more laws why should we expect those to be enforced... |

| I do agree with gun laws no dout. If any thing they could maybe be tighter but i feel RESPONSABLE ADULTS have the right to own and carry firearms. I have grown up with guns my whole life. I was taught to respect them and not play with them. My dad was very strict about those rules and i didnt disobay him. Thats not always the case with kids and parents. I went to school in a city it was easier to get an stolen gun than a real one. Now thats SCARRRRRRRRY!!!!! You have a ten day waiting period for and adult to get a gun, but a 15 year old can get one in 20 minutes if he knows the right people. Are things backwards OHHHHHH YEA. but i dont want someone that makes $400,000 a year and has his own body guards and limos to tell me i cant have a firearm to defend myself if its needed. Back in the 1940's sure but not today. I dont mean to upset anyone i just wanted to get my opinion out there

Saddens me that so many of you live in fear of what 'might' happen. I know the old saying 'be prepared' but I did not realize we were at war with each other.
Just make sure that when your weapons are not in use that you store them in a safe place under lock and key. |
Um... Did I say that I live in fear?? I think that that is a VERY generalized statement to say that people that carry weapons "live in fear".... YES I carry a gun!! But I am not walking around scared for my life all the time but let me tell you one thing, I will FOR SURE be happy to have it if on the off chance that something does happen or some big frickin guy attacks me I will be happy I have it. I dont walk around expecting that some one is always going to jump out at me. I also am not stupid to think that that kinda stuff does not happen all the time cause sadly it does. You said it is a shitty world that all of us need to defend our selves but I am sorry that things happen everyday that people need to be able to defend themselves.
I also spend my time thinking about how lucky I am to have everything that I have. My hubby. My dobes and I am sorry but I am "preparing" myself so that no one, I mean no one is going to take that from me or take advantage of my family. I carry mine everyday in my purse and YES I do know how to use it. Now I will agree with you that there are a LOT of uneducated people out in the world that should not have guns cause they have NO flippin clue how to use them. But dont say that we are all living in fear cause we are carrying guns and making the world shitty... |

| If someone is anti-gun...thats fine that is your choice! and im not trying to convince you to run out and buy one, but please explain to me how guns kill people??? last time i checked people kill people with guns. People also kill people with knives, bats, rocks, even their bare hands. How many cases has there been where a gun went after someone? or broke into someones house and pulled its own trigger? Most criminals that break into houses are armed with some weapon...gun, knife, bat, etc. Lets say you have a family and someone armed breaks into your home...how are you going to protect them? ask nicely for the criminal to leave? Im not saying if you hear glass bust go running downstairs pulling the trigger non stop.
and for those who has lost someone to suicide or murder by gun im truly sorry for your loss...but would you hate knifes if that was the weapon used?

| How did this go from a simple question to a heated debate??? Everyone has an opinion on this subject but we have gotten away from the original post. By the looks of it some of use a a bit passionate on this subject and can go on for a bit but that doesnt help the original problem...

| The OP wanted some ideas of different weapons. They got lots now to choose from. If they get the training needed to operate their choice of weapons, then I hope they will be very happy with the make and model.
I am not telling anyone what you should or should not do in regards to guns.
If you 'fear, worry, whatever' for your saftey or want to be 'prepared' in the event that someone may assult you, you have that right.
I also have the right to carry on my life without packing one. |
