There are also lots of ways to mount and activate things like lights and sights on shotguns now
| On handguns too. We just sold a glock with a light. One of our 1911's is also railed for a light. One thing to think about with lights is that when they are mounted on the gun itself it gives an armed intruder a very clear target. The weapon lights are so incredibly bright these days that they are quite blinding. You can quickly and easily remove the light though and hold it out away from your head/body to blind the intruder while you have your firearm in the other hand. As you said though, not possible with a shotgun which uses both hands.

| That was always a good potential strategy with the gun-in-one-hand, light-in-the-other. Stick the light way out there to decoy / confuse like the old cowboy movies where they held up a hat on the end of a stick. |

| So true, never shoot anything you dont intend to kill. In fact you should never even point the gun at anything you arent prepared to kill. And make sure you understand how serious killing someone is. I know it sounds like common sense, but some people will pull a gun in situations which are far from justifying deadly force. A gun is a last resort, and should be the last thing you want to use, and only done when you life truly depends on it. But it sounds like your talking mostly about self defense in your own home, and that would usually justify using a gun when a perp is in your house!.

| Id go with a shotgun for home security..IMO its the best! dont get me wrong I love my handguns, but if someone where dumb enough to break in id grab my tactical mossberg 500. They might walk in, but they wouldnt leave the same way.
Lighting system, Heat shield, Side saddle, Knoxx adjustable stock

For a carry weapon, I carry a Kahr CW9 (9mm). It's light, easy to use, and easy to shoot. |
Burns, i love those little Kahr's. My freind just got the .45, it's a little to much gun in a small package but very well made. I've been thinking about the 9mm, i have a Keltec .380 that fits perfectly in a pocket but i wold rather carry something a little more well made. |

I honestly was thinking this was some kind of a joke!
I am glad you are all trained with guns, but it would scare the crap outta me thinking i needed a gun to be safe, also i would feel an endless amount of guilt if i shot someone, even if they were gonna kill me... |
That's why i love the USA. It's in our Constitution and although they keep trying they are going to have a hell of a time taking them away from us. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Take away our guns and they'll kill you with a baseball bat or knife, take that away they'll chunk rocks at you. |

| One thing you might consider is a taser if your not comfortable with guns. I do agree with everyone saying to go to the range and rent or a freind that will take you out. Classes are a MUST!!!!!! I personaly like 9mm light enough to carry and good stoping power. I keep hollow pointsin the clip for home pertection. I want to get a Smith and Wesson M4 assult riffle but the wife doesnt understand how a 1000 yard assult riffle is for home protection ( LOL ) Sorry just day dreaming. What ever you do TAKE CLASSES.
