| Stupid Owner!! At the park yesterday leroy came across 2 boxers that had issues...their main issue was having a dumbass owner! long story short....the more dominant boxer charged leroy knocking him on the ground and on his back and tried to get on top of him, while growling the whole time.. I said to the guy "get your dog!" but he just stood there watching like he was enjoying this. Right before I grabbed the boxer leroy rolled over and jumped up and tackled wrapped his front legs and paws around the boxers neck and tackled him...the boxer yelled and dumbass was still standing there..I got leroy off the boxer and all the guy said was "Wow strong doberman, my boxer has never lost like that before" then he said to his dog "good boy, you tired" WTF!! this guy was trying to encourage his boxer to fight...Im not going to say what I told the guy ( I dont think its clean enough for the forum). I wasnt mad that leroy stood up for himself, I was pissed that the guy let his dog act like this and encouraged this behavior..DUMBASS

| | Alpha | Wow, I'm glad Leroy was able to fend off this attack. Can't believe some owners still encourage this esp in light of recent cases like Mike Vick. Wow....
Btw, after your telling the owner a piece of your mind, how did he react? Did anything sink in?

| Well, I am glad that Leroy was okay. It only takes an incident like that to make Leroy wary about other dogs at the park.
Ever since we were chased down by the loose Pitbulls in my neighborhood, my dogs are definitely more on alert if loose dogs run up to them when we are out walking. I had to yell at dumb Lab owners yesterday at this huge park....you can unleash your dogs way back on this power line trail and let your dog run. I generally let mine run one at a time for the chuck it ball.
Anyway, I could see the other dogs, so got Rexy back on lead real quick and was going to do a head to head pass by these Labs when I realized the owners did NOT have either one on lead and one of them was making a beeline toward my guys. The owners stopped in place but allowed their now unattended dogs to keep coming at us! I yelled for them to please catch their dogs, and they then started yelling at their dogs...who ignored them for a minute or two. Dogs were finally caught, we passed successfully and went separate ways. I hope I taught the owners a thing about public park etiquette....if passing other dogs, leash your dog and don't assume every dog wants a doggy playgroup while on lead and focused on their owner.
Okay, I got my rant out! Sorry to be so longwinded about this. Again, I am glad Leroy was unscathed. |

| I am so sorry poor Leroy! The only time i ever was bitten was by a dog aggressive boxer (I was trying to protect my Sheltie) and ever since then I get nervous around boxers.
I tell ya, some people around here are idiots!!! |

| Poor Boxers always getting a bad rap.
I will say this about Boxers......I think they are more "accepted" as family pets than dobermans, but I don't think they they need any "less" of an owner than a doberman does. They can be very pig headed and strong willed. My boxer is very smart, and that is part of her problem...she is a very "seize the opportunity" kind of dog, and will wait until the dobermans are standing just at the edge of a step, or right next my brick patio so SLAM into them so hard that they will tumble down the steps or slam into the side of the patio......
I think they just usually wind up in homes who are not prepared for their "boxerness" (LOL) and they are allowed to run wild. (and wild they are)
They really ARE great dogs, but I too have met lots of dumb Boxer owners. I am glad that Leroy is okay. Thus the reason I hate public parks..........

Sorry to hear about your bad day with the terrible owner of a wonderful breed such as boxers.. |

I'm sorry if I came off as anit-boxer....I swear I'm not, and I know that most of them are great dogs. My head knows that, but I just have a completely irrational fear of them- I know it's irrational, but I just can't help it! |

I didn't think any of you were being anti-boxer.
I guess my point was just that they really are good dogs, but for some reason Boxers seem to wind up with really dumb owners. LOL That sounds horrible doesn't it.
Like I said, I think it is just because they are somewhere between "cute" and "tough dog" and more socially acceptable for "families". They can be totally over exuberant though and need alot of guidance and a firm but fair owner (alot like dobes). I don't think most of them (or most that I see) wind up in very good homes. There are ALOT of BYB boxers out there also. They seem to be in pretty high demand around where I live. I know there is a lady here pumping them out faster than you could count.
I think "families" at least think twice about buying a big bad doberman for the kids, but a boxer seems to be even MORE of a spur of the moment purchase.
