| | Big Dog | Glad your pup stood up for himself and is ok!
I don't think the problem is always just dog owners.....parents can be JUST as bad!!!!
We have had some kids come over our house whose parents have never taught them proper beharior around animals....bad deal. One parent (lets just say a relative) allows/incourages their kid to "torment" their cats.....well guess what? So of course the kids decided it is ok to torment Sabre when they come over!!!! Not good.
Worse yet, when I told the parent to make the kids stop tempting the dog she said "its ok they do that to our cats all the time"!!!!! Hmmmm, declawed cats not quite the same as a 90 lb Doberman...... And you just KNOW if Sabre had defended himself it would have been ALL his fault. Luckily he was VERY tolerant. It got to the point that whenever the kids came over I had Sabre come sit by me the entire time just to keep him/them safe.
I had a boss once that said "stupid people shouldn't breed.....they just make more stupid people"!!!! A little harsh, but normally true.
I haven't had too many issues at the park, but most parks around here require the dogs to be on a leash the entire time.
Chris

| Sometimes the best thing to do is to have the park police # programmed into your cell - if there is even the slightest indication that this dog is being aggressive and/or the owner is encouraging this kind of behavior, then call them. Either this boxer is going to seriously injure another dog or it will meet its match and get hurt. Chances are any humans who try to break up a fight up will get a stray bite as well.
Every dog, no matter what its size needs to be under its owner's control. Most the dogs that create issues at the DP I used to take Java to were small breeds with a Napoleon complex who who charge at the muzzles of larger breeds. Owners were as clueless as this boxer's, thought it was 'cute'. That is until Java turned on the pug after shoulder-checking it for a month - she didn't make contact but she def went devil-dog on the pug. Ever since, that dog would give her a 10' berth every time he saw her. The owner should never have let the situation come to this....
Unfortunately, you may just have to resort to taking Leroy to the park when this owner & boxer aren't there.... |

If people dumb or not are going to own dogs, they should be aware of the behaviors their dogs have and try to prevent things like fighting or anything that may look like it could lead up to a fight, but sadly some people encourage it, in the long run that guy will end up with a dog that needs to be put down and/or sued! Maybe he'll learn before it comes to that | I've run across these types on a few occasions. I always feel sorry for the dogs and have a smug satisfaction towards the owners who allowed their dogs to run up and start a fight with what they previously didn't recognize as APBT. Mine are generally not fight starters, but truly love a good tussle if it's brought to them. I like to believe that more than a few like this guy have changed their act after such an encounter... |

| I'm so glad Leroy is ok and you too. I don't take Q any place he may run into a loose dog just for this reason. I would panic if it happened to me and probably would have kicked his dog or something and got bit. |
