| Yes, I've heard from others that KOA discriminates against Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, and Dobermans. I googled KOA and Rottweiler...and bunch of individual KOA sites came up, where they said no Pit Bulls, Pit mixes, Rottweilers, or Dobermans allowed. A-holes. | Hmm, it would not let me comment either, but perhaps my connection timed out.
Dobemom2be, thank you. Yes, I am very familiar with Title II and Title III access.
That's why I was thinking it would be a FUN conversation with Kampground staff.
Incidentally, if anyone has a Borders Bookstore nearby, my local one has been the worst to display ignorance of Service Animal access laws. I've been repeatedly harrassed and discriminated against by them--so now, anytime I hit the mall, I make sure to park just outside their store and stroll through, no matter which store I'm actually there to visit.
Anyone else I know with a service dog now does the same, heh.
MoJo, that is so cool you are working a Dobe, too. (And, funnily enough, I have a big orange fluffy cat named Mojo.)
Hey, it's good to see others on here with service dogs--is there a thread anywhere already, on that?

| What a major crock of pure and utter crap! How many of us have seen little terrors or various breeds ripping around barking up a storm and being the most disruptive anoying creatures because their owners don't think a little dog needs to be trained and disciplined? At least we know to train and manage our dogs. Just because dogs fall under a certain hight doesn't make them "good" and family oriented. Poop on KOA, baggies and baggies of poop!
PS. Owners of little dogs who do maintain control are exempt from my rant. I only mean the ones who allow them to run rampant.

"Good for you Julie the only way to make these people realise what they are doing is to hit them where it hurts!! in the pocket.(amazing how they tend to change their policies when enough people do it.)"
Outstanding strategy!
Not only them, KOA would rather not have us, BUT all kinds of businesses - both local and national - buy advertising on KOA literature, which is handed out at the "K"ampgrounds.
I'm contacting THESE people, and letting them know that not only will I NOT be patrionizing their business, but I will make it a point to ALWAYS spend my money with their direct competion. All because they support, with their advertising dollars, KOA's discriminatory policies.
Start with GM Corp, Chevroliet in particular. They buy a double-full-page glossy ad in the National KOA Directory. |

| It is ridiculous that organisations can take it upon themselves to have these policies with nothing other than "public perception" as their reasoning. Grr. Like others have mentioned, normally it is the dogs that 'look' least likely to be aggresive that get let off the hook. I have a dobie and a lab cross (which looks pretty much pure lab). Shadow the lab has a beautiful face, with real puppy dog eyes and looks like butter wouldn't melt. He however, is the dog I would trust least out of my two as he had a bad start to life with his previous owners and has some issues. I know what ticks him off so I can control this - and don't get me wrong he is by no means dangerous. But it makes me laugh when people run over to him with open arms and huge smiles on their faces, but then see Bruce (who is the softest dog i have ever known) and run in the other direction! By allowing such 'public perception' to exist, they are almost re-confirming a trust that people have in the 'soft' breeds which may well get them into a nasty situation one day. |

Afternoon Julie - of course we felt unhappy about having to talk with the understanding owner of the doberman at our KOA. We do the same with rottweiller and pit bulls as well for the same reasons. We are dog lovers here both the owners and staff - but the public perception of these breeds unfortunately is what we are dealing with - never the individual dogs or owners. | Then wouldn't a responsible dog/animal lover, as these people claim to be, want to EDUCATE their customers and try to change public perception? Ignorance breeds fear, and that is what this company is about. I won't be using their services. |

| | Alpha | This I copied straight from Cloverdale KOA's website:
A Message From Management
To ensure that all campers have the same positive and memorable experience, we suggest that our guests follow the guidelines outlined below.
PARK PROTOCOL:
1. ALTHOUGH WE LOVE DOGS, WE REGRET THAT WE CAN NO LONGER ACCEPT DOBERMAN, ROTTWEILER OR PIT BULL BREEDS OR MIXES DUE TO INSURANCE RESTRICTIONS. ALL OTHER BREEDS ARE WELCOME!
2. ALL PETS MUST BE ON A LEASH, MAX OF 6', WITH THE OWNER ON THE OTHER END OF THE LEASH!! PLEASE CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR PETS IMMEDIATELY!!
I read an earlier post that claimed the owner of this KOA stated it was NOT for insurance reasons, but rather a public perception of the breed. I guess based on the findings on their own website, the owners are definately full of CRAP!!!!!!! I will no longer spend my money with a company such as KOA. I realize this will hurt the owners of KOA's that do allow all well behaved dogs but, I would rather not endorse a corporation that allows it's owners to discriminate.

| I gave them my feedback. All my pet owner friends know about KOA's "Pet" "Friendly" policy and have boycotted. : |

| Related - hotel instead I was thinking of maybe bringing one of my Dobes on vacation to Florida this coming November - since it looks like we will be driving instead of flying, and so was researching dog friendly hotels on St. Pete Beach. I found a really nice place right on St. Pete Beach that made a big deal about having a dog friendly section......... even had pictures of someone with a German Shepard there - read the small print and Pits, Dobes and Rotties were not allowed. WTF?? GSD's are allowed but not Dobermans??
I HATE it when places make a big deal about how pet friendly they are and then exclude some breeds or put a weight limit on it. The place on St. Pete Beach also said not over 80 pounds - weird.
