| | Lil Pup | Ideal Diet I am wondering what y'all consider an ideal diet for two healthy 75lb doberman to be? I am also interested to hear what your friend regularly likes to eat (which may or may not be what is the best). I hope that we can share and learn from our shared experiences with the hope that we are able to better feed our dogs. Thank you! |

| I feed a prey model raw diet but they also get some grain free kibble meals for ease when I travel. I don't think there is one ideal diet for every dog (or person for that matter). I think people should feed what works for the dog and them.
I personally like how my dogs look on raw and have seen some fantastic benefits in the past with dogs that had issues and currently cats with IBS issues. I get the added benefit of clean teeth and not paying to get them cleaned or running the risk of anesthesia.
My dogs literally eat anything including toilet paper off the roll, cardboard, etc.

| You will probably get 100 different answers to this question. The ideal diet for any dog is the one that the dog does the best on.
For my two -- it is a raw, prey model diet.

| Prey model is typically
80% meat no bone
10% bone
5% liver
5% other organs
All raw.
My dogs get chicken, turkey, beef, pork, goat, lamb and very occasionally fish or pheasant.
Flirt is about 70ish lbs and eats 2 lbs a day. When fed Kibble she eats 4-5 cups a day for comparison. Depends on what we've done that day or how she looks.

| | denormalized | I feed prey model raw diet also.
They get 2 whole fish each twice a week (head, guts and all).
They get whole furred rabbit once or twice a week.
They also get emu, lamb, beef, chicken, turkey, yogurt, eggs, etc.
Same ratio as Adara feeds. I also provide Nzymes for the puppy and the one with several health issues, plus Icelandic Kelp and Fish Oil, VitE, VitB supplements. Puppy gets VitC and CLA (until she has her 1st heat).

| I do not feed my dog raw as his primary diet. However, that is simply because of where I am personally and physically. I cannot afford to feed my dogs raw where I live so I feed the best kibble that I can afford. I feed Nature's Variety: Instinct and I switch the protein with every bag. I LOVE this food and love how my dogs do on it. They do, occasionally, get raw treats.
Once I move to a bigger city and am financially stable I will be feeding raw.

Flirt is about 70ish lbs and eats 2 lbs a day. When fed Kibble she eats 4-5 cups a day for comparison. Depends on what we've done that day or how she looks. | Yep, what Adara said, although mine get Fish regularly + things like muskrat, alpaca, ostrich, deer, duck, goose, lamb, bison and pretty much whatever else I can get my hands on. They each get a huge, whole, raw, frozen turkey neck once a week (keeps teeth sparkly clean and gives me about an hour or two of peace an quiet :-).
Wheeler is 4 years old, 90# and eats btw 2-2-1/2# per day, depending on how he looks. Lola is 9 months, weighs roughly 60-65# and is the energizer bunny on speed! She is never still and is nothing but a lean mass of muscle. She eats btw 2-1/2-3 pounds a day. Days she goes to daycare she gets a light lunch consisting of 1/2 pound of whatever.

| Sardines, fresh or canned are the healthiest for your dog. Look up, Sardines, A Super Hero Food for Dogs. It will tell you all about them. Canned salmon is also good providing plenty of omega 3s. You just have to start out with small amounts. You can't feed raw salmon, but you probably know that. Smelt is another good raw fish.
I feed Natures Variety Instinct rotating the proteins. Also feed the NV Prairie venison, Acana, and Orijen to rotate the amounts and varieties of the vitamins, minerals and smaller stuff like that.
