| Need Help Picking a Food Merrick vs Earthborn vs Taste of the Wild vs EVO? I love EVO for the cat, recently got my roommate to switch hers to EVO wet, but I'm not quite sold on their dog food. TotW has had some interesting recalls as well which make me nervous. Eventually, likely over the summer, I'd like to research making the switch to raw, but first I need the convenience of a high quality kibble while I sort out my class schedules. This is if I do indeed get this rescue boy, which is just waiting on a cat test now.
Also, what are your opinions on these treats or these treats? They look like tasty high value treats to me and I'd need them regardless if I get him or not. 3/4 family dogs have grain and corn allergies.

| Acana or Orijen. Champion Pet Foods has never had a recall and they have the most rigorous and highest standards for manufacturing in the pet food industry that I've found. |

| The Merrick treats should be okay. I'm pretty sure that they are made in the US. All the Canyon Creek Ranch jerky is made in China. I wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole. These are the ones I use. http://www.truechews.com/Products/Ch...n-Fillets.aspx

| I second Orijen if price is a factor than I like Acana. |

| I also would suggest Champion Pet foods
If you are planning the switch to raw, you could also try dehydrated or freeze dried raw
Stella and Chewys, Honest Kitchen, K9 Natural, Ziwi Peak
Bronson is home made raw fed, my cat now eats Honest Kitchen mixed with Stella & Chewys
And stay away from any treats made in China or ingredients sourced from China

| Augh thank you for the warning about the treats from China! It's been a long time since I've had to buy anything from a store or site, I typically go to the pet bakery and get some of their treats and I haven't been in charge of feeding a dog for 2 years.
Thank you Hank for the dehydrated suggestions. I'm liking what I see from Honest Kitchen and it costs about as much as the Orijen from my source here in town, so I think I will go that route if everything pans out.

| If I may jump in here - I am also looking for a new food for my 10 week old pup. The breeder had him on Pro Plan so I transitioned him over to Canidae. It has been 2 weeks now and his stool is extremely soft and he has bad gas. I was thinking about Acana or Orijen as alot of you seem to have good results. That said - is either better to start out with for a puppy? Also which type? There are so many. |

If he already has soft stool and gas I would start with Acana. Once he is good on that, then you can try the Orijen if you wish.
I would start with whatever protein source you prefer. Acana has grain and grain free lines.

| ok thanks! I will get him a small bag or Acana and try it out. Do you think 2 weeks is enough time on the Canidae or am I transitioning too soon? |
