I recently changed to grain-free at our vet's suggestion, because my Lucy has digestive issues. Both of my dogs are thriving on the Orijen brand of food. It's a bit pricey, and not sold locally, but thank Heaven for the internet and the ability to buy anything (even pet food) online. I've found the difference in Lucy's health to have been well worth the extra $$ spent on dog food!

I feed my dogs a grain free diet, and I supplement with raw meaty bones, fruits and vegetables. I have to be careful of what food I feed, because my girl has difficulties with high percentages of protein, and a lot of grain free food seems to have 25%+. I have to stick between 20 and 23%, or she gets very sick.

As a very special treat, I give them some uncooked spaghetti. For some reason, Sonya absolutely loves it, even more than her biscuits. It's very strange.

I bought EVO, which is grainfree. I'll eventually be switching him to raw. I've had too many dogs with too many troubles and allergies with grains to even consider it nowadays. Closest they get is a bit of rice when they're dealing with an upset tummy.

Baby Kelly is now home and from 9.5 weeks old, is eating "all life stage" (ALS) kibble:
- no puppy brand kibble
- currently a 50-50% blend of Holistic Blend Lamb & Rice / Organix Chicken & Salmon
Treats only Wild Alaskan Salmon &/or Organic biscuits plus marrow bones from the butcher shop.

When new bag opened, her kibble blend will consist of:
- Holistic Blend Lamb & Rice http://www.holisticblend.com/en/food...lamb-and-rice/
- Holistic Blend Turkey & Salmon (grain free) http://www.holisticblend.com/en/food...as/grain-free/

My dogs aren't technically grain free as their food has rice, barley, and oatmeal. We are, however, corn, wheat and soy free due to skin issues. Not sure if its a true allergy, but Bruno gets all kinds of itchy with corn and wheat.

If I could I would feed raw or grain free. But I have discovered that I must feed the dog I live with. And bentley didn't do well on raw. 6 months of gas and diarrhea and huge weight loss but a clean bill of health from the vet meant no more raw. He can't do potato based kibble but is fine with lentil and pea based ones.

Currently he's on a rice and oatmeal based food with lamb as the protein. It works for him and the price pleases my husband

I wish there was an option for "Sometime grainfree, sometimes not". Right now, I'm feeding grainfree. But I will feed a food with grain in it. I do try to avoid corn, soy, and wheat, though.

I feed my dog and cats grain free kibble, they eat Wellness Core. I feed grain free because they poop less, shed less and they no longer have dandruff.

Skoll I tried EVO, but it was too rich for his tummy. Innova was the same. He did incredible on Blue Buffalo Wilderness so I think that will be my kibble of choice for next pup unless I scrape up the freezer space (and research!) for total raw diets.

Saffron my cat is currently on EVO but the recalls recently have spooked me. Also for some reason I think it fills her up a little TOO much, the amount she's currently eating isn't enough to sustain her weight currently (and she's fine according to the vet) so I've been debating finding something else. Might switch her to Blue Wilderness for cats.

All the breeders I dealt with recommend ProPlan Performance,
except one who liked Merrick and I fed him that for a while
but his digestion and coat and musculature got much better
when I switched him to ProPlan. Tried EVO once but got dry skin
and flakes so back to ProPlan.

The one exception was with Harriet who was really arthritic and on
tramadol to help with the stiffness. A vet I saw when my usual vet
gone for a week on vacation (unbelievably that week both my dogs
had something going on) recommended Hills Science Diet Advanced Mobility
for the arthritis. She'd been getting glucosamine supplements which didn't
seem to work. I took lots of glucosamine for years as a runner and still
destroyed my hip cartilage so I don't really buy into it. The Hills was about
the most expensive food there was but after considering it for a month a gave it
a try. Harriet was 8 and there was a marked difference after a month. She ran
more, chased squirrels up trees and was more active outside in general.

I'll use Hills again if one of my babies gets stiff in the future but my results with
ProPlan in terms of health, coat, and digestion have only been good.

Grain free. He's still got the occasional fart and stinky poo though. I went grain free based on what I saw here, but FWIW, my vet whole heartedly endorsed grain free (and/or raw) when i asked him about it

we converted to redmoon grain free after some advice and discussions with other people and family. we are doing 6 days grain free and 1 day of bones. after 2 months of it our dogs are simply doing better. the boxer has a softer coat and isnt snorting snot out of his nose as much and the dobe pup coat looks more shiney but she does seem to have more zoomies syndrome
