| I tried pro plan. Terrible food=terrible results. We talk about bad kibble IMO anything made by purina is garbage. I'm surprised to see so many feed it regularly. Glad it works for some dogs. Just not mine.
I feed Wellness Ocean CORE. Excellent results. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

| I tried Pro Plan once in a pinch and the dogs had huge stools with lots of gas. I ended up throwing the food away.
I am glad so many dogs do well on it because it is an affordable choice. I would not personally bring it (or any Purina Products) into my home again.

| | No Longer on DT | Hi. I'm new to this forum website and inquiring for some advice.
So I've read this entire thread, I'm relieved to know my dog isn't the only one with gas issues. I've been on PP Shredded L&R and its time to switch due to the gas and soft stools. Perhaps this could be as easy as switching to Sensitive Stomach or as difficult as switching brands entirely. I'm no food nerd, so what to switch to?
My (current and first ever) Doberman is now 9 months old. My budget is tight enough so I can't afford high end (Blue Buffalo etc.). By choosing dog foods I'm aware of the first few ingredients are the make up of the dry diet and I have been avoiding the cheap corn fillers. I don't feel comfortable feeding raw or canned (soft) diets due to my lack of experience owning a large dog. I'm open to all opinions and individuals knowledge. Please post your thoughts. |

There is no "one size fits all" food. I wish there was, it would make my life so much easier in veterinary practice! Personally, I believe in feeding whatever the animal likes and does the best on.
I tried a lot of different foods, including grain-free and holistic, but my dog just had soft stool and gas on it. Went back to Pro Plan shredded chicken, and poops back to normal and no gas. *shrug*
My advice would be to buy small bags of different foods and really monitor stools and gas, and just see what agrees with him and what doesn't. Good luck

| | No Longer on DT | Finally a break through! Just an update! I experimented with various foods. Apparently it's the rice ingredient that was the problem. So he's switched to something without any rice in it and he's doing just fine. The downside, he is on a grain based food. But I'm on the lookout for a food that I can upgrade to that doesn't have the rice. Thanks for ya'lls help |

| ProPlan Shredded Lamb for two dobermans...one-no gas; other one - a little gas but both dogs have way less than before and the volume of poop is about 1/4 as before and no grass eating. |

| My pup was on pro plan focus large breed puppy. Recently switched to totw and I am very happy with results. Price wise it's actually a little cheaper than pro plan although you get 3 lbs less I prefer the higher quality kibble. Poop is firmer, coat looks like great . |
