| | Lil Pup | young dobie boy needs help! Hi all,
Got a call last night about a young male doberman whose owner's boyfriend was going to shoot him. I went and grabbed him, and he's a very, very sweet dog. He's 14 months old, neutered, cropped and docked, red, and terribly shy and insecure. He is also very leery of other dogs, and is completely overwhelmed in my home given that I have 8 dogs. If his life hadn't been in danger, I wouldn't have taken him, but I really felt there was no other option. Clearly he has not had the level of care that any dog deserves. Can anyone help me find placement for this poor guy? I've been calling breed rescues and no kill shelters with no luck. He's a really nice dog who just needs a chance!
Located in Durant, Iowa.

| Poor guy. Did they say if he was from a particular breeder? You could try to contact someone in your area with doberman assistance network (DAN). Hope he finds a home soon. |

| The 2 closest Doberman specific rescues would be IDR (Illinois Doberman Rescue) Contact Us | Illinois Doberman Rescue
and Doberman Rescue Alliance of Wisconsin, Inc. Welcome I believe there is a member here on DT that is affiliated with this rescue but I apologize for not knowing who it is (hopefully they will see this thread and chime in).
"Dobejazz" is a Moderator here on DT and is afiliated with IDR. I would suggest sending her a PM and maybe she could help you.
Good luck and THANK YOU for stepping up for this beautiful dog
Unfortunately DAN~Doberman Assistance Network does not have anyone located in your area but suggested that you contact the 2 above mentioned rescues.

| Hi and welcome to the forum and thank you for helping this poor boy out. Like greenkouki suggested, can you possibly find out what breeder he is from and if they are reputable, they possibly can help. He looks like a sweet boy.

| He's safe! Quote:
again - thank you so much for the heads up concerning this boy. My
husband and i drove to iowa yesterday to pick him up. He is beyond sweet
- he is amazing. I am so happy that we can help him find a loving forever
home. The thought that anyone would even speak the words 'i am going to
shoot him' about this boy absolutely floors me. I could have taken him
home in heartbeat!!!!
He is settling in to his foster home, and we may even have a permanent
home for him soon.
Thank you, thank you!!

| That is a statement that i have heard so many time "my father shot our doberman" "i had to kill our doberman" maybe if i owned another breed people would say the same. Senseless!!!
it probably happens when the shooter begins to understand the dog is more intelligent than they could ever hope to achieve!

Where is this boy now? With a private foster family, or did a wonderful DT member get him into a home.....
OP thank you for saving him!!!!

thank you theresiam for getting involved - May you be always be blessed! | Yes I'm beginning to hear this a lot too. "I had a dobie but he got too aggressive so my dad shot him" Makes me shudder to think what might have happened to Skoll if the vet clinic had just sent the owners home after refusing humane euth, instead of offering to foster him.

| Dobes bond very tightly with the one they love, and I believe that is the trait we like the most. The dog probably growled at the stupid jerk, and if you ask me the lady chose wrong. I trust my dobes reaction to people more then my own.

Glad to hear he is safe now. He does have a sweet lil face.

Glad to hear he is safe now. He does have a sweet lil face. | This is the story the volunteer who drove and got him got from I assume the OP therese... Quote: We received a request to help this sweet boy - his story ....
He was a Craig's list dog, purchased by a lady with five kids. The kids tormented him - poked him in the eye, tried to ride him, etc. The lady claimed he 'snapped' at one of the kids (wonder why...) and her boyfriend said he was going to 'shoot the f'n dog'
A good samaritan stepped in and rescued him so he wouldn't be shot. She has 8 dogs of her own, and needs a place for him where he will have a shot at having the wonderful forever home he deserves. In his short 14 months he's been through 4 homes. He's at least 20 pounds underweight and is nervous around men (good chance the boyfriend mistreated him). |

I know the feeling, young scrawny red boys like him are special for me.

I know the feeling, young scrawny red boys like him are special for me. | Well the first thing I thought when I started reading this thread was to tell the OP to take him to a vet to scan for a chip. I know that usually when dogs are brought in to animal control/shelters, the first thing they do is scan and research microchip history. The chip (if there were one) would most likely be registered to the first owner (or the breeder), since I doubt homes 2-4 would have gone through the trouble of changing it. :/
Going from an owner straight to rescue I'm not so sure...I imagine every rescue has their own protocol. Now that he's with DRAWI I'm sure they can scan him if no one else did. Either way, sounds like he is in much better hands now. Thank you so much for helping this boy.
