| Anyone know Woodruff Co. ARF, AR We are considering adopting a doberman from the Woodruff Co. Animal Rescue Friends (ARF) in August AR. Does anyone know this organization? Are they reputable? Ive seen a video of the doberman, and she seem healthy.
We live in Maine, I know DRU is highly recommended, but was wondering about this organization. Thanks! |

| I live very close to them. About 2 towns over actually . I've heard good things about them! Not many local adoptions because they are very strict with adoptions. They do all home searches, back ground checks etc. they care about their animals!

| Ummmm Lisa, are you aware this dog is in Augusta ARKASAS???? Not Augusta, Maine.
If you were thinking this dog was in Maine, then I would HIGHLY suggest contacting DRU. Go to their website, DRU.org and send in an application. Then make an appointment to go and meet some dogs. They are wonderful, and will set you up with the right Dobe for you!! Good luck and let us know!

Lisa | This is from the website Dogs Available - Woodruff Co. Animal RescueFriends "Many of our dogs go to the New England states to their forever homes and we use Got Orphans, All Paws and Peterson's to get them there. They are awesome teams of dedicated animal lovers who work tirelessly to get rescued dogs to their forever homes. Please take a minute to look at their websites ...you will be amazed at what they do! Don't let distance keep you from adopting!" |

| Yes, Cindy is the one we are considering adopting. There is a video on UTube of her playing in the snow - she is very cute! I'm aware she is in Arkansas, I saw the notation that alot of their dogs go to New England - wonder why?
I have the DRU form filled out - just haven't mailed it yet - and then I saw Cindy. Are you thinking she will have to travel too far to get to Maine? I do like the idea of meeting dogs before adopting.
Appreciate your thoughts. |

| In my opinion they are a good shelter. They have a Facebook page, where they talk about where their dogs are going, what their adoption rules are, and other things. Very friendly and driven group of people. I know they research home well, as in if the owner has the sex as a dog they are wanting, they rarely adopt them out. They do good with Matching dogs with the right homes and are quick to tell someone no if they feel the home will not be good for dog. You can contact them and ask for more videos and pictures. I'm sure they would do that if you wanted to see more of her and how she interacts with people. good luck

I'm aware she is in Arkansas, I saw the notation that alot of their dogs go to New England - wonder why? I know nothing about this rescue but I think it is wonderful there there is a DT member that lives in the area, is aware of this rescue and has given their opinion of them
This is total speculation on my end, but I know some rescues adopt and transport out of state because if they didn't, many of the dogs wouldn't get adopted. I know from living in the south that some shelters are located in very rural areas and have very low adoption rates. My local shelter has a 98% euthanasia rate because there simply aren't people in this area who are interested in adopting a dog from the shelter (for many reasons and not many of them are any good- ex: they don't want the dog to be spayed/neutered, they have no intention of keeping the animal indoors, they don't want to pay the adoption fee, etc.- basically they just don't want to adhere to the shelters rules and adoption policies).
I have mixed emotions about rescues that transport dogs from the South to have a better chance of being adopted in other regions. Some of the rescues that do this are very good at it, reputable and do things the way they should be done but there are some that do it simply for the money (I am NOT refering to the rescue that this post is about). For the rescues that do it right I say BRAVO because the majority of the dogs they save would've never made it out of the shelter and been euthanized. For those that are in it just for the money and basically operate as brokers it is a very bad thing for the dogs.
I know that DT member "KevinK" adopted and transported his dog from another state so you may want to ask him about his experience (he did not get his dog from the same rescue that you are considering but I am sure that he would be able to give you an overall feel for the process and what it is like
I have the DRU form filled out - just haven't mailed it yet - and then I saw Cindy. Are you thinking she will have to travel too far to get to Maine? I do like the idea of meeting dogs before adopting.
Appreciate your thoughts. | DRU is a FABULOUS rescue and I highly recommend them. If I were you I would mail in the application because it takes time for a rescue to approve potential adopters. If you do find a dog that you are interested in @ DRU, already being an approved adopter would definitely speed up the process so to speak.
As for Cindy being transported from Arkansas to Maine- dogs get transported via rescue all the time. As long as it is done correctly and humanely and by a transport company who knows what they are doing and are reputable, that wouldn't be an issue for me personally.
I would definitely ask the rescue what their policies are regarding meeting a dog before adopting it. I really can't see the rescue transporting Cindy from AK to MA just for a meet and greet but then again I don't know what they do or how they do it. This again is one of those things that I have an issue with regarding these kind of adoptions but that is just me. I don't know if I would be able to commit/adopt a dog for the rest of its life just from looking at a pic/video and reading a Bio without meeting the dog in person, but again that is just me
I wish you all the luck in the world no matter what you decide to do. Thank you for wanting to adopt and for doing your homework prior to doing so Cindy is very pretty and I hope that she finds her forever home soon. |

Sent from my iPhone using PG Free | Thanks. I have been corresponding with them via email, have told me more about Cindy's background. They have sent me the adoption contract and transport info. Need to talk this over with my husband (he's been out of town the last few days). Wondering if I should go with DRU and go visit with the dogs. Cindy does seem very sweet though! |

| Well in this area ( all around Arkansas really) many many dogs are put down. So sad too! There's many horrid shelters who just bring in dogs and put them down that day! Or in my town Marianna, the shelter used to just shoot the dogs on spot!!!!! There shelter was a concrete circle building with no electricity or water. The dogs would starve or be shot to death. I finally did something about it, got
On the news, made paper headlines etc! Now we have a better staff and they are working hard to make it better here. This area of Arkansas sucks when it comes to animals! Google search Marianna Arkansas dog abuse and you'll see me and all the info about here. But woodruff is a pretty decent facility! The dogs need homes because if not, they will be euthd... If work wasn't in the way, I would go visit Cindy for you and see if she's a good dog ( which I'm sure she is!!!) but work keeps us busy alot.

Sent from my iPhone using PG Free | Just saw the newscast from Marrianna AR - some people are sick! Turns my stomach. We decided to adopt Cindy. She will be very different from our beloved Rocket who was ill for several years - we lost him last August. |

| Awe that's great. Yes it's very sickening here. That was my mom talking in the video. We had a lot of coverage here, for a small town, but it all stopped after about a week. No one cared then. But now it's getting better thankfully. Good luck with Cindy and I hope she is a great match!

| So LisaZ, congrats on picking out a great young dober in need...she sounds like fun times soon, once adjusted to much love and a home to call her own.
- sometimes the young and most loving dogs that didn't have the best head start...owners affection is very appreciative and they cherish their new & lucky start finally - very glad you filling your empty home with Cindy
Both your Rocket and our Amy went to doggy heaven, around a similar time (this year)...I am sure, they found each other and are best friends now !!
P.S. - if you can find Cindy's YouTube video...pls. post the link / will be fun to see your girl.

| She is doing Great! She settled in pretty quickly, very sweet and playful, she loves the snow! Which is a good thing because we have a lot of it this year. Right now she's running and jumping around the front yard. She loves to run. Have only heard her bark twice. She is very smart, learns quickly. we have a few chewed up remotes, but not too much else, she loves her bones, carries them around the house. I did have to get a trash can that locks, she would get into the trash at night. We not been crating her at night for about a month now - she does fine (now that we figured out the trash thing). |
