| Doberman Pup in trouble Simply didn't know where else to post this, so here goes 8- (.
My name is Susan Ann and I'm writing to you from Alexandria, LA. Not sure if you can help me but here goes. One of the neighbors on my street has purchased a purebred Red Bitch Puppy. I do not know who the breeder was, which is why I'm trying to reach out to the breeders in Central Louisiana, trying to find someone who can perhaps help me.
The neighbors who bought this puppy have a horrid track record with dogs. Their first was left in the backyard chained to the fence and died of parvo. The second got out of the fence and got killed by a car, and the third one was seized by the Alexandria Sheriff's Dept. because they were neglecting it horribly. So they go out several weeks ago and buy a new Doberman puppy. Let me tell you about this pup's life now. She is locked up for 7-12 hours a day in a wooden shed that has no windows, so She is in the dark all day long. The kids get home from school around 3 or so (NOT always), feed and water Her and let Her out for maybe an hour, and then She goes back in the shed all night long. I'm sure I don't have to tell you what this will do to Her over time, both physically, and mentally. This is why I'm trying so hard to find the person who bred Her, I'm sure no breeder would want one of their pup's living like this. Please help, if you can, if you possibly know of someone in Cenla who might have bred this pup. |

bless you for caring. | Thank you for your reply, those are good ideas also, I can teach them a lot, since all I have is rescues, including a Blue male that I rescued out of a shelter in Kodiak Alaska. Thanks so much, will keep working it! |

| I did a google search "craigslist alexandria la, doberman" and got 4 results. You might check these out and contact the breeder/greeder. Hopefully a BYB would care enough to intervene: AKC Doberman Puppies CKC Fawn Doberman-Female AKC Doberman female puppy
The search only goes back to October 22nd. Someone else might be able to find more...

| I had neighbors who took horrible care of their dogs.
They thought they were doing right because the care that they gave was what they were raised to know. I befriended them and would slip in tips and tricks from time to time as we talked and, over time, the care for their dogs increased a ton. It is, of course, a longer process but I have found that it works.

In all seriousness though, I would call around to the different rescues in that area if there are some, and I know it sound stupid, but Vialobos rescue (Pits) takes all sorts of dogs and she will literally go in there and make it happen, if none of that works, I would seriously think about putting Animal Control on watch out there to see if they can find a probable cause for animal abuse, etc.
Best of luck to you, and God Bless you for being a better person than I would be, I would have been in prison for at least assault if I was in that position. |

| What shape is the puppy in? If it is thin or has some medical issue I would contact the Animal Control people and have them look in. Then when the owners continue to neglect the dog make more complaints. Hopefully when it costs them some money they'll sign the dog over and a rescue could grab it. |

So all we can do is call the Sheriff, which, I've been told the Sheriff has been out there 3 times, and as long as the pup has food, water and shelter, there is nothing they can do. What I would like to do is steal over the fence at 3:30 in the am and try to steal it, but alas it's a great way to get shot.
I watch Pitbulls and Parolees all the time and I LOVE IT!

My concern is the fact that they may neglect Her......being in complete isolation is the worst thing in the world for a breed that is so family oriented..plus not to mention in the damn dark all the time, no fresh air or daylight!...I've spent that last 6 years trying to undo the damage that has been done to my own Doberman (His situation was eerily similar to this Pups). God, can I cry now please? |

| I, too, would try to befriend them. Maybe offer to help with her training or puppysit.
This breaks my heart. She is definitely not to be left alone. How sad. Thank goodness she has you, a concerned Doberfriend.

| id go over there when everyone is out, break the dog out and leave the lock on the shed all mangled and then take the dog to a rescue centre as far as you can be bothered to drive...
Then when you come home pop round and say you see someone in uniform taking the dog "perhaps if you wasnt negleting the dog and shutting it in a shed and ot was in your house it would still be there"...
If the old bill have had to come round because of one of their previous dogs then they should be banned from animal ownership in my opinion, no tolerance no exceptions, banned from all animal ownership! Including hamsters..... |

| How awful. You'd have thought they'd be banned from keeping animals if they've already had one taken away from neglect?
Hope the matter gets resolves quickly, thank you for caring! |

| Well, there is a lock on the shed.....not that if anyone wanted to take Her that a lock could actually stop them. I've exhausted all efforts (they will not listen, and will not give me the name of the breeder). I can tell you this though, every single day this coming summer when it is 80 degrees or higher, and I can hear Her barking in that shed, I'm calling the Sheriff until they take Her away. |

| Are you home during the day? Sounds like the kids wanted a dog ut they didn't want the responsibility.if your dog gets along with other dogs maybe say "hey I noticed you got a puppy, if you don't mind my dog would love a play mate during the day. I'd be happy to watch her for u until the kids get home!" If they don't want to deal with the dog it gets it out of their care for a period of time. I don't know. Best I could come up with. | It would be nice to have a "star chamber" that would take on these task. I do not think you can do any thing now but accept what the law allows. You Cannot go commando since you seem to be the only one who cares, and you will be the bad guy. Some days and it seems to becoming more and more that i really hate people and its not their ignorance its the attitude.
Sorry you live by and bear witness.

bring your own bolt cutters! | That's awesome! I love the idea, I just don't think it would work, ROFL! You sure did make my day though, thank you so much! Oh, on a side note, my neighbors down the street had the Sheriff called on them, something to do with that pup, I will write more when I hear local gossip. (Makes me feel a little bit vindicated though- to know I'm not the only one who cares). |

| Friggin redneck trailer trash scumbags. Send them to Brooklyn and I will make them a pair of cement shoes and throw them off the Brooklyn Bridge. I just lost my doberman of 11 years and am looking for a new one and then I hear a story like this and it pisses me off. |
