| I certainly did my darnedest to try to rescue a dog before I opted to purchase Jaina. However, things just simply... didn't work out. I personally don't look down on anyone for going either route - for me, I found it difficult to find a dog that would work with my cats.
Either way, I'm really glad to see you'll be able to bring him home. I think you'll be fine with your home check - just don't let Quetzalcoatl eat the inspector!
Edit: also, it sounds like you're getting a pretty awesome (albeit misunderstoond) dog out of it Just don't forget your Bringing Home the Dog Kit - as many toys as possible, chews/treats, etc!

| Congratulations! Cant wait for more pics, he looks beautiful.
My boy Tobey was an adult rescue and he was very fear aggressive when I got him, wouldnt even be in the same room as a male human, and forget the vet! All he really needed was love, time and patience and he came around. It was quite frustraiting at times because he would completely break down into a shivering, cowering mess when you would do something like shake the towels to put them on the drier, or if you raised your voice (even in joy!) he would run and hide upstairs under the bed. He is a completely different dog now though, absolute BFF with my other half and is very confident
Rescues have so much love to give! |

| Good luck with your new boy! You might check out the trainers on this list: Search for Professionals
Control Unleashed is one of the best dog books I've read. I think you'll find it REALLY valuable. There's a Control Unleashed Yahoo group, too, that's moderated by the author (as well as some others). Lots of really great trainers are on that group and they are really helpful.

I rescued a girl last year about this time and I had some leads on some BYB or greeders but only by location not name at that time. Since I am in Oshawa I love to hear details of this crap so I can monitor and maybe actually find ways to hinder their business. | Wow! Nice to see someone else from the 'Shwa' here! LOL If i am correct the 'breeder' mentioned by the OP is a byb here in Oshawa. I see their listings on Kijiji and Craiglist all the time selling their 'world champion' puppies.
Donnatoldu2---do you mind me asking what part of Oshawa you are from? I'm in the north end and have seen a few dobes around here and always wonder if they are members of DT. |

| Congrats!!! I will add though that I refuse to use nylon leashes with my dogs. My hands get burned too easily. I find leather much easier for me to work with Just a heads up. I know many who use nylon just fine. I use the sensation harnesses.

| Collar, crate, clicker, and coat have all arrived. It seems there was an inventory mixup for the lunge whip so I'm still waiting on that BUT hey, it's not a needed thing and I've got eBay to poke if I need to be reimbursed. One of the books is on kindle so I've been reading it in my spare time at work on my phone.
She'll be giving me the EZ-walk that she uses for him, plus some of his favorite toys. Oh and Adara, my favorite leash to use is the one I got from On Lead at a dog show in Harrisburg. It's the 2ft purple leather one... eventually going to get a leather 6 footer as well... I never minded the slight nylon burns until I got spoiled by the soft leather leash.

Wendy Jordan (the trainer you linked to), is Wescot Dobermans. She owns two dobes currently. She also happens to have border collies Nice combo, I think

I'd done a quick look around with her name and discovered that a bit ago, but her site doesn't look up to date on the dobies so I was reserving any feelings I had for her. She hasn't responded past my initial email so I will be sending her a poke in case gmail ate either my email or her response.
Less than 2 weeks to go!

| Well crap!! My roommate decided to tell me just now that she cannot drive me to Buffalo because her car needs new tires and the other needs a new belt. Any east coast/PA/NY rescue people willing to give a kid a ride up? I'll pay your gas.

| I spoke to the trainer today! I wanted to go to a local store called Woof n' Tails because it's a lot closer to my apartment and it's supposed to have good food, so I walked over and it sells pretty much everything I'd need for feeding Skoll. Next to it is Wendy Jordan, who I also spoke with, and she said that she'd be more than willing to take him on. She wants to do an evaluation before anything else to see if he can be in a group class or not, but yay!
