Just saw a post that DAN took in 5 Doberman pups from a breeder in SC. They are 10 weeks old. Sadly they all have Parvo. Unfortunately one did not survive. Please donate and say a prayer for these babies.

i had to deal with parvo many years ago.

i lost some of my little ones.

it still haunts me today.

Prayers of hope, and hugz to the pups.

sleep softly and rest in peace to the one who did not survive.

breaks my heart...........

Sadly, we have lost one of the puppies, little Ms. Rose.

She fought so hard. Sleep well little one.

There is new information regarding these puppies. D.A.N. has been put in an interesting position that we feel should be made public at this time. D.A.N. took custody of 5 puppies approximately 10-12 weeks old. The story of how these puppies came to the person who contacted us had it's share of red flags, but of utmost importance was that the pups were sick and declining. D.A.N. took the puppies straight to a veterinarian in S. Carolina. This vet demanded payment before treating the pups and once that was arranged he informed us that they had Parvo and in fact that one of the pups was lifeless and would not survive. After setting up the payment he administered fluids and we were told, medications. Because of what we believed was more of an interest in money than in saving our babies lives we transferred them the next day to a vet and foster we trust implicitly. After two days of IV fluid and medications specifically for treating dogs affected by the Parvovirus....a fecal test was done on Bluebell and it was NEGATIVE for Parvo. Our BOD requested a test on Violet and it came back NEGATIVE as well. Dodger remains in good shape. They were heavily infested with hookworms and whipworms and that has been treated. Now we are left with the dilemma....did they or did they not have Parvo, did we lose pups because of parasites? Were our babies given the best possible chance with the treatment they were given in the first 12 hours of their rescue? This matter is far from closed as far as D.A.N. is concerned but it is internal and in no way affects the amount of care and attention these puppies have received since moving to the D.A.N. vet to whom we are very grateful. Dr. Love told us this morning they are not out of the woods yet but the prognosis looks better with each day. If they are able to eat and drink and not relapse into lethargy and dehydration they will survive. If we have any vets reading this, please feel free to comment or contact us if you are able to shed any light on how this was possible. Thank you all and I apologize for the long read, but as a family we are all entitled to the facts.

I hope that the puppies continue to improve, especially with a more accurate diagnosis. Thank you for the update.

(what is it with vets and asking for "up front" payment on parvo treatments, anyway? One of my library friends had a puppy with parvo and the vet did the same thing to her.)

ETA: I'll change my blog post to reflect that they don't have parvo, but parasites.

odd, if pups have Parvo, you just know it...at least you do if you have ever seen it before............

the smell, the drooling, vomiting, liquid diarrhea.........

Here is some GOOD news!

Update puppies: Violet is doing really well....she ate and drank and gave kisses and wagged her tail......Bluebell is still struggling a little, she is the tiniest and has the hardest road so far, but she did eat a little this morning and is drinking really well, so hopefully she will eat more today and maybe we can get a tail wag from her too...

and of course the Dodger is still a rascal.....

hmmmmm, they actually do look like pups who have survived parvo..........

once the virus has run its course, if any pups survive, they do bounce back quickly.

STUPENDOUS UPDATE! Dodger, Violet and Bluebell have all moved on to their rescue organizations where they will be tended to, nurtured and will soon be on the way to finding their new, loving forever homes! Dodger and Violet went to Distinguished Doberman Rescue and Ms. Bluebell went to Doberman Rescue of NC where she is in the best foster home possible!
