| Renee, if you are in an area that has a reputable dobe rescue see if they will ASSIST you in re-homing your dog. You can do the same job that a rescue does, advertise your dog, you can find a generic application online etc. Also be sure to do a home check, vet reference and two personal references if you are going to screen homes yourself. Hopefully a local rescue will help. |

I know it is a tough decision, but please get in contact with a local rescue, they can be very helpful. we take owner turn ins as well as from shelters. all our dogs get vet checked (snipped if necessary, and get brought up to date on shots if necessary) they spend 10 days with foster to get a feel for their personalities to help us make a good march with ntier new forever homes.
If we don't have available fosters we also put available dogs who are staying with their current owners on our available dog list. this list goes out only to approved adopters.
so check with your local rescue, that is usually one of the first places folks look if they want to adopt a dobe, I am sure they will be helpful, to you.
good luck

| Than you, Mia and Codysmom. I broke down crying on Sunday morning after reading all the very kind and supportive emails. This is extremely hard to do but I realize now that a rescue would probably be the best. I was leary of them at first but if they will be kind and work with me I think it would be safer for Lexi. Thanks again. |

Thanks again. | I would contact rescue and tell them that you would like to hold the dog until placed. Perhaps the will send someone to evaluate her. Evaluations are very helpful to rescue as to finding the most suitable home. Some dobes are best placed in experienced dobe homes or homes with no children or cats or even other dogs. They may even want to do the evaluation in their home. Also if they find she needs it sometimes they will have her fostered to get some additional training and socialization prior to placement. Most rescue's will do the best for your dog and have experience with dobes.

| Thanx for all of the rescue info. Am torn between getting a pup and rescuing a Dobe, esp when you see how many sweet dogs are in need of a home. There is a blue boy at St Hubert's in Madison, taken from a home here in Mendham. Sad thing is he was tied up outside, and I know that the area his former owners lived in has had bear sightings (!). 8-yr-old sweet (according to staff) male, has been taken from this family at least twice before due to neglect. Have no idea why he was returned to them. No one is allowed to see him from outside of St Hubert's staff as the matter is before the courts, however when I was dropping off some food on Fri was told that no one showed up for the court date to claim him. Have been told to call every week to check on his availability. Will keep you posted. Manwhile, if there is anyone in the Madison, NJ area who might be interested in Paco, feel free to inquire about him. |
