Stairs!!

Do I need a gate!!
Rusty discovered how to go up the staircases...for fun or after the cat. But, as soon as he's up there he's whining and barking because he can't come back down. I'll go fetch him and he'll run right back up a minute later. Man, I'm going to be in shape. When are they able to walk down stairs themselves, or is he just chicken?

He'll figure it out! Mine did the same thing and after of few times of being "stuck" upstairs he figured it out. Gorgeous pup by the way.

Have him watch you walk up and down and try putting a leash on him. Mine never had issues with stairs so this is mearly a suggestion.

Maybe try holding his favorite toy or better yet, hold the cat at the bottom of the stairs and maybe he'll come back down.

Good luck.

I don't know about you but I'm in no hurry at all for my puppy to learn going down the stairs. It's about 2000 less square feet of space I don't have to monitor. When my pup starts learning the stairs, I'll put up a gate at least so I determine when he can go up and down.

Lexx is 9 months and still cant do stairs well, which is mostly my fault because I don't want him going upstairs in my house. I would be careful about the stairs, he could fall and hurt himself, puppies aren't the most coordinated animals!

Mine are not aloud upstairs as we wanted so of the house to ourselves LOL so we dont have a problem, we dont have a gate as from a puppy we told zeus no adn he did not go up.. it only took a couple of stearn tellings off for him to learn, and when we got missy as zeus didnt go up she didnt !!
if you dont want him up tell him no or get a gate, if you wnat him up, leash him and teach him how to come down so he dont fall !!

I used gates because my two would not listen to "no upstairs!" He will learn to come down after you show him a few times on a leash that he won't fall, that is if you want him upstairs. In our house, upstairs is a nono.
