| Do you think I have a hot body?
So many of you know when I first rescued Hades he was underweight (just over 70lbs) now he weighs in at about 85lbs. He is 29 inches at the shoulder. I feel like on paper that seems too thin but when I look at him he seems ok.
The other think I notice is he has a lot of excess skin. Especially in his chest area. As you can see he doesn't have much of a chest. Must run in the family ::glances down::
What do they say? A Doberman is an athletic dog in a tight fitting wrapper? Well mine has a loose wrapper. Does he need to build up more muscle? I've recently switched him to a higher protein food (Earthborn holistic primitive natural grain free 38% protein) I think the TOTW he was on was 28%. He gets lots of exercise: dog park, bike rides, ob training in a large field so he can run. (He's perfecting his down stay at 30feet away, then runs full speed at the "come" command only to sit in front of me just as I've braced myself expecting to be run over.)
Or am I just being a nervous Nellie and his loose wrapper is just bad breeding, which we all know he is the product of? Sent from Petguide.com Free App

| Jasmine just did a double take!! haha She thinks he looks mighty fine! I think he looks great! I remember that before and after pic you posted recently, and it seems he's come a long way. I think he looks really strong, especially in the chest.
I don't see any loose skin, then again, I don't really know what I'm looking for.
Ahh sunny Florida, oh how I'm jealous lol |

| I think that right now his weight looks great. The photo looks a little funny in that it's shortened a bit but I don't see the loose skin you're talking about...? |

| | Alpha | Do you think I have a hot body? Every time I try to look, Calamity tries to peak too and since he is nekked I have to close the photo. It's bad enough that inbreeding led to Calamity being his half sister, I can't let her check out his body too!
But Huckleberry said he was lookin mighty fine in that extra skin, and then he started drooling. What can I say? Sent from Petguide.com App |

| It's hard to see his underline with the way he's roached. Dobermans keep extra weight in their loin and chest when they are overweight so those are the areas to watch for and feel when you think you're dog is getting "fluffy". |

| Do you think I have a hot body? He just turned 2 in January. Maybe his chest will fill out and that'll bulk him up. I really noticed this when I was playing with my boyfriends boxer and she is so muscular and has a tight little compact body. Hades is muscular but doesn't feel like he fills his skin out like she does. (I know two totally different breeds but it made me think there was something wrong with him.)
Tried to get a better pic of him from the side...
And here is his loose chest skin...
Of course having two dogs and trying to get a picture of one using a treat isn't very easy hence why snoop is also checking out the skin and Hades is not amused by all the pics. -_- ::rollseyes:: Sent from Petguide.com Free App

| Ok, the best part of that second pic is your other dog's face lol! Hmmm, there does appear to be some loose skin in those pics, but he still looks healthy and muscular. haha I just pulled on Jasmine's neck. She doesn't have that, but Jasmine's only 13 months (although I was looking at her adoption papers the other day, and although her tag said 9 1/2 months, her approximate birthday is in March, so I think it was an error. She still looks a lot like a puppy, so I'm thinking she probably is only 11 months).
Have you ever mentioned it to a vet before? Hades doesn't appear to be in bad shape at all, in my opinion. |

God forbid I try to do something with one dog without the other getting his nose in the middle of it. Literally.
The real Dr. Snoop...

| "Wet neck" is a term for loose skin on the neck. Think Bloodhound for the ultimate in "wet neck".

That's just the term people use (esp. in the show ring) to describe loose skin vs. tight skin in the area. Some dogs have "wetter" necks - just an aesthetic thing.
I've never heard about the loose skin and thyroid issues correlating... Is that true? If it's not, and this isn't new, then I personally wouldn't fret about it. It's just how he's built - like you said, he doesn't have the best genetic pool in his background. Some dogs will fill out more until 3 or so, so it might change a little, but that just may be him. |

| Do you think I have a hot body? I have never heard of wet neck either but he's always had one since I got him 5 months ago from rescue. He was underweight so I figured he would fill in as he gained weight but his neck hasn't completely tightened up. Sounds like it might be a waiting game over the next year to see if he fills out by the time he's three.
I doubt he was on the best quality food considering he came from a family who ended up being foreclosed on. He was turned into rescue around a year and a half and I got him shortly after. He's put on a fair amount of weight since I've had him but maybe that's why his chest never developed.
Or maybe it never will due to bad breeding. Oh well I'll love my little wet neck either way. Actually I probably can't call him a wet neck seeing as I live near Miami and a slight variation of that is a derogatory term :-0 Sent from Petguide.com Free App
