| Anyone ever had this? Sasha and I were watching some TV on a cold Saturday when I noticed her licking her paws. I usually wouldn't pay her any attention, because she doesn't like being dirty and will clean her paws from time to time, but this time she was really going to town! I'm not sure if her toe is infected or she just went OCD on it last night. I'm always concerned about her health, but vet bills always cost so much, if anyone has a solution or any advice that might help and save me from another vet bill it would be greatly appreciated |

| Mabel will obsessively lick herself when she goes to sleep but I dont allow it to get out of town.
That being said, she's never licked the hair off and a loss of hair is concerning to me and worth a vet check. It may be yeast or a staph infection. Ocd chewing that needs control or something else.
Hugs and good luck

| My old Boxer used to get cysts on her toes, in appearance they looked very similar to the sore on your girls paw.
Is it sore, can you touch it, what does it feel like, soft, hard, can you see a wound?
In Boxers my Vet told me that they are very common, I don't know about Dobes, however, what I do know is my girl used to get them pretty regularly. And each time she did I would take her down to see my vet. More often than not he would give her an anti-biotic jab and sometimes he would lance the cyst to relieve the pressure that must have been really painful. He would then give me some anti-biotic cream with instructions that I had to apply it twice a day for a week, as well as bathe it in warm salt water to draw out the infection and any possible foreign body which might be causing the cyst.
In my Boxers case my vet told me her cysts could be being caused by either an ingrowing hair, a foreign body or just because she was OCD about licking her paws.
I am not saying this is what your girls paw problem is. But if it is, she will need to have it looked at and perhaps need some anti-biotics to help kill off the infection.
Until you know what it is, however, no one can tell you what you can do to help her get over it.
Hugs to your girl from Spain.

| If you have "old" snow on the ground, could she have irritated it? I'm on my second Doberman that has toe-related injuries in the hard snow when running or playing.
My first Dobe would get raw cuticles around his nail and leave blood trails in hard snow. My current Dobe will lick his paws at night especially in the winter and 9/10 times he's injured his right toe on his right paw. He doesn't tend to bleed, but you can see where it's sore around his nail on the cuticle. Is there anything raw or ragged between her toes or around the toes?
My current guy just got back from the park where he left a blood trail for quicking his two front toes on his right foot. Apparently I dremmeled really close to the quick yesterday and scraping it on the hard snow was enough to hit the quick; I know he's going to be paw licking again later (time to break out the boots at the park!) Are your dog's actual nails ok? |

Parker gets yeasty between his toes if his food has an allergin.
It's a good idea to fix up a vinegar foot wash to rinse off dog feet when they come in from outdoors. One cup vinegar to one gallon water. |

| Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Her toe doesn't seem to bother her at all, I can press on it and clean it without her blinking an eye. She hasn't even been licking on except for the once when I saw it this morning, so she is either licking it at night or when I am gone for periods throughout the day. For the most part she is with me nonstop attached to me like an extra appendage. I feed her ACANA Pacifica and supplement with fish oil and vitamin E. I did buy some Natures variety a couple weeks ago, it was their salmon formula, but Sash did not do well on it she had diarrhea almost immediately. I only fed her the Instinct for three days and threw it away. I guess this is just really unusual and weird for her, ill keep an eye out for it and take her in If starts bothering her |

| My boxer had a couple histiocytoma that at one point looked like that. They tend to get much worse looking, larger, redder, and open sore before they almost disappear as fast as they came on. For the first couple of them I went in to have them biopsied because they look very similar to malignant mast cell tumors and I'd rather be safe than sorry. This may or may not be what it is but a quick trip to the vet would at least get you antibiotics if needed. You can watch and wait but I wouldn't wait too long if it doesn't appear to be improving.
BTW--Boxers are more prone to histiocytomas than dobermans. |

| My old chow chow would get something that looked exactly like this from time to time,
for her it was fungal. It went away with topical ointment from the vet.
It could be the same thing. You could try rubbing a little bit of Monistat (Miconazole) on the swollen toes. If it works you will see the difference in about three days.
I would put the cream on and then put baby socks on her to keep her from licking it off for the first 30 minutes or so. Just so it has enough time to soak into the skin. The vinegar soak mentioned above would be good too if it is fungal. Just another idea. |

| Logan also had this issue when we first got him. The vet said, that sometimes its allergies. he would dig inside his paw like nobodies business...i couldnt get him to stop and he was biting them raw. We switched his diet to natural and not only have his eye boogers cleared (he had accessive eye boogers and a runny nose all the time) but he stopped licking and bitting and digging in his paws.
Up to that point he had almost constant issues. |
