I've not used Iverhart Max but while on Setinel I kept finding Ruthie covered in fleas. That could just be, however, due to the fact that the fleas are decently resistant in my area of the country.
I use Trifexus and have never had a problem with it.

| I used interceptor/sentinel for the longest time... switched over to trifexis after I could no longer get Novartis products. Also folks, please be sure your pets are on year round hw medication not just in spring and summer months. |

| I use Iverhart Plus for mine. Leo has taken it without any trouble so far, but I just ordered a test kit from the link Patchwork gave. (Thanks, by the way. ) I prefer to treat for fleas seperately, on an as-needed basis.

| My pups are still on Interceptor (perks of working at the vet), but if I had to choose/ happen to run out, it would be Sentinel because of its flea protection. And if I am not mistaken, Interceptor and Sentinel are from the same distributor company.
As far as I know, collies and like breeds are sensitive to ivermectin... also found in Heartguard/ Heartguard plus, and possibly as the brand name describes - Iverhart Max. However, your group shouldn't experience sensitivity because they aren't collies...
I personally like the coverage of Interceptor - heartworms, whips, hooks, rounds. Whips you need a blow torch to get rid of- especially in the environment. Iverhart Max doesn't cover whips as far as I know.

Made by the same company as Interceptor/Sentinel I believe. (of course, you don;t want to apply this to your cats)
Or Vectra 3D (I have been using this on Rou and so far so good- just A LOT of material and watch your leather items like couches, car seats, etc.)
Just some friendly suggestions

| Walmart has their own brand of Frontline, too. I've used it, but I think the fleas around here are getting resistant to it. I have better luck with Advantage, and can't wait until it goes generic.

| Advantage can be purchased over the counter... which peeves off some veternarians simply because it used to be that Advantix/Advantage were only through a vet. With the flux in economy, the company started to sell to other retailers...
*** Considerable price markups at those other retailers PLUS you usually get 1 free tube when you purchase through a vet depending on your area.
Fleas/ticks are becoming more and more resistant to fipronil (frontline top spot and the like/generics) which is why I don't use it.
The key ingredient in Advantage- Imidacloprid - I believe is patented through Bayer corp. They may just keep it this way.

| Patents on drugs only last so long, though (usually about 20 years). When the patent expires, companies other than the original patent-holder can legally start manufacturing generic versions of the drug. Sometimes, the patent will be extended, but usually is allowed to expire.

| If you'd consider administering it yourself, you can buy this generic product, Endo-mectin, and give to the dog(s) orally. It's quite affordable. Several people in one of the dog rescues in which I volunteer supply their foster and resident dogs with this product: Amazon.com: Generic Ivermectin Injection - 50 ml: Pet Supplies
I pulled the info below for you in regard to dosing from this website: Ivermectin (Ivomec®, Heartgard®) - Page 1 Dosing Information Medication should never be administered without first consulting your veterinarian. The dose for ivermectin varies from species to species and also depends on the intent of treatment. General dosing guidelines follow.
For dogs: Dose is 0.0015 to 0.003 mg per pound (0.003 to 0.006 mg/kg) once a month for heartworm prevention; 0.15 mg per pound (0.3 mg/kg) once, then repeat in 14 days for skin parasites; and 0.1 mg per pound (0.2 mg/kg) once for gastrointestinal parasites.
For cats: Dose is 0.012 mg per pound (0.024 mg/kg) once monthly for heartworm prevention.
The duration of administration depends on the condition being treated, response to the medication and the development of any adverse effects. Be certain to complete the prescription unless specifically directed by your veterinarian. Even if your pet feels better, the entire treatment plan should be completed to prevent relapse or prevent the development of resistance.

Haven't needed to as my dogs haven't had fleas in that amount of time and I won't put more chemicals into them than necessary. My dogs are very active and outside a lot so it's strange that they don't get fleas, but I'm not complaining. Luckily they don't have flea allergies. So far it's worked out. |

| I use interceptor, mixed in with heartguard when Interceptor is on backorder. I don't like to treat for fleas either, but we live in a real bad area for the buggers. One dose can last upwards of 3 months though, there is no need to dose your dog up every single month. I treat Griffin in the spring, 3 months later, and then once in the fall. No fleas here. |

| Can you get Sentinel now? My dogs were on it from the time they were able to use heartworm preventative but then it became unavailable and we started using Trifexis. Id go back to the Sentinel if its available again, otherwise we use the Trifexis which the vet said is the closest to Sentinel.

| How much did a one-year supply cost? Do you have more than one pet you will treat with it? If so, how will that change the supply for that one year?
I'm comparing prices, and so far, have yet to find anything more cost-effective than what I found and cleared through my vet. Quote:
