| Dogs, goats and an old black horse Diezel is going will with the animals. I don't let him in with the horse, at ALL, even though Jack is calm as you could wish, D is 100% goober still. The goats have shown him that they will not be chased. The goats are wethers, and they pack. I'm starting conditioning early, since the snow is hard enough for them to walk on.

| Great pictures!
Your old black horse is gorgeous
So the goats just come for a walk with you? That's pretty rad! |

| Jack isn't too, too old he's 13 this may. Lotsa life left, but he's my senior critter. He's so fuzzy. Some of his winter coat is 3" long, no joke! The goats walk along just like the dogs. We do about a mile - two right now, as they've been enclosed since late october. When conditioned, they walk at about a little kids pace for miles, carrying about 30#. They stay right with you and never run away. They can easily go places horses have trouble and don't spit like llamas |

| That's awesome!
I've of course wanted a horse since I was 5, a dog my whole life, and I've recently come to think that goats are pretty cool. One of these days I'll have things like property and all kinds of animals. Once I make my first million, I guess.... |

She was that black also. She was 37 1/2 when she died. I had her since she was 3 1/2 and I was riding her until she was at 30. Not far or long towards the end but still rode a little. After she hit 30 or so, she was just my retired friend. Thanks for posting those great photos.

| [quote=CalamitysHuckleberry;1363338]Love it! Love goats! Man I want goats!
I think these are the best! You don't have to milk them, they don't stink, they are happy to see you and they get along with everyone. The only downside is, well, they are goats and they will eat your flowers, your $200 baby tree you just planted (it's not dead, just, well, very interestingly pruned), the ornamental shrubs, climb on your car if they get that far, eat the trim on the horse trailer, eat the stucco on the barn.... But, if you proof all those things, they're a hoot! Plus you never have to toss your christmas tree again...just feed it to the goats and chipper the leftover wood.
Horses? My dad's old appy mare lived to 38. She was a sweethart. Jack is still full of energy! He's a musclebound quarterhorse with a gorgeously long curly mane. He's previous owner didn't understand him well. He about lost an eye in a trailer "discussion" and both ears are notched, one from the trailer and one from barbed wire. He's got a lot of character and follows you around like a half ton puppy
Thank you for the kind words! |

| Love these photos! And I am envious of your wide open spaces! I own a small farm in the city with two reining horses, two Merino sheep due with lambs soon, 3 cats (and about 30 feral cats! Haha!), two holland Lops, 4 toy poodles, and a soon to be Dobe puppy! Nubians are next on my list! |

| 13 is young. The youngest of any of ours that we've lost from old age have been well into their 20's (and we show/breed/train Morgans, so we've had A LOT come through our barn doors). We consider ours in their prime at from like 10-15. He's handsome. One of my very favorite show geldings will be 32 in May, and he still has spark in him. Of course he's been retired from the show ring since he was about 18, and retired from (very) light pleasure riding in his early 20s. He gets excited every time he watches the show horses get on a trailer though, his back is a bit swayed, and he is grey around the muzzle but otherwise don't tell him he's an old man. We love every horse we've produced (we have never bred on a huge scale though, quality not quantity), and always have a happy retirement paddock with a few oldies but goodies.
I also used to have goats, they were just like dogs...dogs that (broke loose and) ate my tulips EVERY spring lol.

| Holy cow! You live on Hoth! Do the Tauntauns stay in the barn or? (I'm a geek, I know)
What a great piece of land. Can you see your neighbors?
Goats are awesome. I had Nubians for my FFA project in high school. All pets and the bottle babies were so tame they came with us everywhere even long trail rides. Such sweet sweet critters.
Thanks for sharing your snow! =)

~Bev~ | Sorry, the Tauntaun ate too much hay, Lucas adopted 'em
As for neighbors, I can see their farms.....in the distance. |
