| | Lil Pup | Would you adopt a dobe with a tail and uncut ears? I found a shelter that rescued a pregnant dobe from a family that lost their home. The rescue that took over the prego dobe isn't going to crop their ears or dock their tales. The shelter won't supply papers and is selling the puppies for $350.00 and will be adopting out around 8-10 weeks of age. The shelter just adopted out the father and plan to keep the mom. Would you adopt the doberman puppies even though you couldn't crop or dock?
I'm just looking for other thoughts on it. I've always thought dobe's should look a certain way, but I'm still considering adopting a puppy from them. The price is good, but at a cost of no papers or the above listed.
Thanks
Jason |

| I love a dobe no matter what they look like and they can be quite cute with tail and ears...I have some puppy pics for reference if you need them. But it's all personal preference. Do you like them all natural?
It sounds like the more important question though is how comfortable you feel adopting from this rescue/adopting this particular puppy... is it what you really want?
Can you tell us a little more about what you're looking for and where you are? maybe we can steer you towards another rescue with a dog in your price range and more "traditional" looking.

| My answer is simple - hell yes.
I would love to own a completely natural doberman one day.
Please do, however, make sure that the breed is a good fit for you.

| Are you sure that sire of pups is full doberman?
At least mom is in a safe place to be with her litter!
And that pups will find great homes given the care put forth to background checks, etc.

| ears and tail really don't bother me as much as they used to - even though as a breeder, I crop and dock. So truly the question is: how do you feel about ears and a tail?
My question is why are they keeping the dam?

| Sure. I adopted a floppy-eared but docked girl as it was (points to icon). We could go all-natural next time if it were the right dog for us.
I'd prefer to adopt an adult, though.

| Would you adopt a dobe with a tail and uncut ears? What does a shelter gain from keeping the mom?
It might not be popular opinion but I can't see me adopting/purchasing an all natural Doberman except in special circumstances. The c/d look makes the breed for me.
That being said, it's your dog so if you're ok with the look then adopt a pup. It's still a Doberman on the inside Sent from Petguide.com Free App |

| In a heartbeat!!! I love an all natural doberman, moreso than a docked one with natural ears. It's just the symmetry of the whole dog for me.
Not everyone likes an all natural doberman...it's just personal preference. If you don't think you will be able to adjust to the look, then wait till you can get what you prefer. There is nothing wrong with waiting for a puppy or dog of your preference.
Good luck to you. |

| I'm with LindaH, I'd sooner have an all natural doberman than one that's docked and natural eared. I think their ears are terribly cute and they get the long curly tails.

| I have had docked, but not cropped up until now,but docking is now illegal in UK. I have heard many say they wouldn't have a Dobe if it wasn't docked and I was unsure, until I lost my boy last year and realised that I love the breed so much that I no longer care. If the aesthetics are so important that you no longer want a Dobe with a tail do you really love the dog inside? I am picking up my puppy on Saturday and am actually quite looking forward to a wagging tail and a smiley face, but most of all it's a Dobermann. |

| I would adopt an all natural dobe in a heartbeat. I feel it is the personality that makes them a dobe, not the appearance. Does having a C/D dobe make it different than an all natural ? I think the personality traits are the same in any dobe, and the ears and tail make no difference in that. I do love the different expressions of a cropped dobe, the ears are alot of fun to watch with different moods, but I have never been able to watch a natural dobe express itself with the ears either, I am sure they can be equally as cute.

| | Alpha | Absolutely!
In fact, that is the reason we opted to adopt rather than purchase our new pup. I was unable to find a reputable breeder who had natural pups. The rescue did dock the tails of the litter, which was a disappointment- but in no way affects how much I love my boy. I truly hope more good breeders start offering the natural option, as I really would prefer a completely natural dog for my next Doberman.
What I was not willing to do was adopt a pup with cropped ears, nor would I put them through the cropping/posting process. |

| | Lil Pup | Would you adopt a dobe with a tail and uncut ears? Thank you all for your comments, the curly tail is cute and floppy ears are too. Do you think these breeds are more affectionate them other breeds? I've read that they are very needy and always wants loving, which is a great trait. I've known other breeds that are kinda like cats and could care less if you are in the room or not.. Sent from Petguide.com Free App |

| My least favorite look is docked with floppy ears, my favourite look is cropped and docked and my second favourite is all natural.
Like LindaH, it is a balance thing for me.
I have had 2 fosters with tails and they don't bug me in the least. They don't knock things over/off of tables etc. I haven't been hurt by them. The only problem I have had so far is it gets in the way when we are going up the stairs and have to stop at the door- i tend to run into it LOL. Here is a picture of Sully
as you can see, his tail isnt as curly as Ija's so there are differences in their tails. At the resting position it is like a backwards "S"

6 weeks old (i don't have any 8 week shots but this is roughly what the pup will look like)
6 months old I just loved their ears, very soft! And the tail being full really shows a lot of their attitude.
I just loved the way the ears fly in the wind!

| In a heartbeat.
Ears and Tail are an important part of the Dobe that should not be tampered with. But that is I grant you my personal opinion and accept not everyone thinks this way.
My Dobe is not cropped but he is docked. If I had, had the option I would have kept his tail too. |
