| Bathing Question I know this may be a silly question, but I have to ask it. Why is it that after every time dogs get a bath, they run around like crazy? Every time I bathe Hess he gets the zoomies and runs around the house like a madman. I have heard that it is because their scent had just been washed off, and they are trying to get it back; I don't know if this is true. Just curious if anyone knew the answer to this. It would be interesting to find out why they do this. Thanks!

LOL! Great question - but I think I love it as much as he does when we are done...sometimes I join him and he loves that too! |

| The zoomies, I loved those. The pure joy in it, I wish I could get like that.

| James Brown probably said it best "Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now...So good, so good, I got you..."
Before the zoomies, they act like we're killing them in the bath.

Before the zoomies, they act like we're killing them in the bath. | I guess maybe they are just thrilled that they survived the entire ordeal |

| Java races off and out of the bathroom as if the starter's pistol just went off - ears back, full tilt, smiling ear to ear. Stops to shake and then she's off again! Have learned to put up gate at entrance to ktichen so that I can contain her and give her a final toweling off so that she doesn't shake in the living room. You're absolutely right - Java has the most pathetic look on her face when she's in the shower that magically disappears as soon as she's towelled off. |

| lol, this is an old thread but it made me laugh. i was wondering if my pup was wierd or something.
she does this exact thing...hates the bath then gets loose and runs, jumps, barks, rolls in grass/dirt, and does victory shakes with her toys.
i've found it's just best to leave her outside for about 15 mins after a bath because if's she is inside it's gets dangerous with the spazzing out.
video of her a few weeks ago after the zoomies wore off after hearing another dog barking. YouTube - Foxy July 19 2009 |

| It's because they're wet and don't feel comfortable when water is sliding down their skin even when you already dried them with towel. Or just uncomfortable feeling of being colder then usual. |

| Fiona doesn't hate bath time but I don't know that she likes it either. She just stands there, staring at me the entire time with this look like, "WTF are you doing?" I have to pick her up out of the tub when we were done and stand her on a rug. Then she plays tug with towel for a few minutes before finally deciding she's dry enough and the zoomies begin.

| I was told it was because all that built up anxiety from the bath needs to get out! I've also heard this can be a time where they are most likely to get into a fight :/ I love the word "zoomies" for it though! And my dogs do the same thing!! |

| Yep, same here. Riley looks completely pathetic in the tub, ears back, unsure of what's going on, stares at me like "What did I do???" and then when he gets out and dries off, WOOOOOOOSH!!! And lots of silly playing!

| Lol just literally got done giving Mazzi a bath. She makes it look like her bath is the worst torture in the world. Head hung low, tail glued to her butt. As soon as I'm done toweling her off the zoomies kick in and she's off like a wild pup! Eyes and mouth open wide, tongue hanging out the side and butt all hunched up as she flys around.

| Well we get the typical zoomies after bath time too but we get really crazy zoomies when ever any of the others get baths. It's like she doesn't want anyone to have a bath but her. We have to crate Bella when we take another dog out of the tub or she will act all nutty on them. I don't get that one at all. She will stand by me so nice and calm and just watch when I'm bathing another one but prior to taking the other one out of the tub I have to crate her or she goes psycho. I try to give them all baths weekly assembly line style, one after the other so by now you think she would be used to the program. Nope. Lol.

| As a groomer, there are very few dogs that enjoy the bath. Trust me, they all think they are going to melt when the water hits them. I just enjoy the stories of the babies getting home and "parading" around their houses with their owners saying how beautiful they are. They know it and love it. |

| I have always wondered the same thing. Your nice clean dog goes tearing around like a wild thing. Last time I bathed him I immediately took him for a leash walk which he loves to go on walks-so by the time we got back he was dry. . I felt like I "won" but really he did! Or I suppose we both did, right? Even our lab who was pretty laid back would get the zoomies after her bath. |
