| My First Doberman I am happy to say my boyfriend and myself adopted our first Doberman named Miley. She is a doll . She is about four months now and just so precious. I just wanted to know alil bit more about the breed. I did some research and all i got was negative things and i know for a fact how bullshit the negative outlooks on certain dogs are. We already own a Pitbull. He is does not fit the negative stereotypes. He is nothing but a huge baby and loves his new baby sister Miley so very much. She seems not to love him as much as he does her tho. She def loves him but does not need to be next to him all the time like he wants to be with her. She seems to always want to be with me. She needs to cuddle under the blankets with me. She just gets me i guess you could say. She is adorable on walks and always looking back to me. If she is unsure about things she sits next to me just staring at me until i tell her she is fine. And she is ALWAYS jumping if she is happy NOT on me but in general just jumping. If you guys could tell me if those are some of DoBerman traits and give me some more feedback on Doberman traits i would greatly apperciate it! |

| I love her to pieces she is such a gentle loving lil girl. She has such soft eyes. She steals my heart everytime she looks at me. She is my first Doberman. So i was curious on the breed. Thats why I joined this website. I am also wondering about ear cropping and tail docking. I MYSELF don't want to get it done. My boyfriend mentioned it a couple times. I just want to know if there is a specail reason it gets done or just for looks because i love her big floppy ears |

| Oh she's too cute! Please leave her natural!
The main reason I say this is because tails are usually docked in the first few days, any later and it's major surgery. The ears shouldn't be done past 12 weeks - she is too old. But still, she's SO CUTE and her ears look so soft!

I would not dock yours at this age either. We would have cropped the black one but it was too late when we got him and most vets in our area won't even do it anymore no matter the age. I love my doberbrats, even the floppy ears, even though he looks so silly if they both flip over lol! |

| And i am not sure if anyone knows anything about this but i was thinking of trying to get her to be a therapy dog. She is very smart knows so much already. Very gentle with children and my grandpa its like she knows she has to be more gentle with them. I just have no idea how to go about it! i really think she would be amazing at it! |

| You can find breed health information at DPCA | Home
The first thing I would do is get a GENE DNA test done for VWD. VetGen - Veterinary Genetic Services can give you more information.

You're lucky she's gentle as some have no idea and will practically bowl you over.
The smartness and staying right with are breed traits.
Dobermans can make good therapy dogs.
I always suggest "The Power of Positive Dog Training" by Pat Miller for an excellent positive training book. Dobermans do so much better with positive training methods and this book will help you two to build a strong bond.
Congratulations!!! Welcome to doberman ownership!!! |
