| Longhaired Doberman, say what?! Have you seen this? I don't know if it's legit, but what the heck. Dog Bio: Newman

| I've seen pictures of other coated Dobes, but none had tht much hair. Evidently, lurking somewhere in the deep recesses on Dobe genetics, there is a (resessive) gene for longer hair. You'd never know it's there untill you get a dog that is carrying two copies of it, and it is expressed as a longer than normal coat. Like I said, the other pictures I've seen, the dogs haven't had this much coat, more along the lines of a Flat Coat Retiriever.

| I remember meeting a long haired Rottweiler back when I was in college. It was a recessive gene for that dog too, and the owner said something about it being an accident and the breeder wasn't breeding for it on purpose. I wish I could remember more details, it's just the dog that stuck with me. He was all Rottie, just with longish wavy hair. |

| | Alpha | That's legit--I was on a now defunct Dobe list with one of the people who helped get Nerwman placed with home for life.
And even though Newman is probably the most coated Dobe I've ever seen I've seen a few over the years. At least one of them was from a show line and all of them had the same coat pattern as Newman. Clean face, pasterns and hocks and well coated elsewhere.
There are some very old pictures of Herr Dobermann with some of his early dogs and several of them (they were pretty much all mutts) were not shorthaired at all--in fact one of the reasons that Manchester Terriers (aka English back and tan terriers) were used early on was to improve on both color and markings and coat length.
But there are coated dogs behind the Dobe we know today. |

| I would absolutely love to see the pictures of Herr Dobermann with his dogs. Do you know where I might find them?
ETA: Perused the internet for some photos and came across this website. I don't know anything about the breeder, but the photos and articles are particularly interesting. http://www.vonroth.com.au/about-bree...velopment.html

| Hello!
Interesting looking Dobe. Not sure the breed standard would be modified to include long hair Dobe. However it will be a great companion to go for long walks outside here in our long and cold Canadian winters.
