| How old is the dobie in question? Can we have a picture of the dog's ears?
Welcome to DT! We would be happy to help.

| Is it the actual crop that is bad, or that they do not stand properly? Agreed, how old is the dog?, and pics would help immensely. Welcome to DT |

| Have you owned a dobe with cropped ears before? Did your breeder or vet that did the surgery walk you through the posting process? They do not stand right away... it can take months, sometimes more than a year, to get ears to stand.
Agreed... age of dog and pictures would help.

| Those ears look way too short to even consider fixing or recrop.

| | Alpha | Oh my, poor girl, someone really did a number on those ears. I'm all for doing what you can to correct bad ears- but I really don't think that butcher left any ear left to work with
At this point, I don't think there's anything that can be done. Perhaps the best plan would be to love your girl the way she is for many years to come! |

| Poor girl, they really messed up her ears. Even if she wasn't too old, she has practically no ear left for them to fix.
She looks like a sweet girl, just love her how she is. Did you get her from a rescue, or from the previous owners? |

Please tell us her story and how you came to own her.
And yes, she is far, far from being fixable at this point. Sad to say. |

| Wow. Poor girl. Lucky she found u. Can't fix those ears. This shows exactly why good breeders use an expert cropper and do them before they go to new homes. |

| I can't tell from you original post how much you know about cropping. Note - I'm not an expert, but I have read a lot here. Any corrections from people with experience is welcome.
First the ears are cropped, then they are posted. It's the posting that 'teaches' them how to stand. They are held up with supports while the cartilage hardens. Some dogs are posted for a short time, some for up to a year (maybe even a little longer.) It varies from crop to crop (short often stands easier than long) and from dog to dog.
If there is a break or a fold - possibly because the owners stopped posting too soon, then it isn't possible to train the ear to stand. Some people have had surgery done, but I'm not sure you want to put your dog (or your wallet) through the process. (I think it's called threading & you could do a forum search.)
Also - even though my dog's ears stand, much of the time they are sideways (like airplane wings) or flat back along her head. She doesn't always do the 'alert, ear pointy, dobe thing' - it depends on her mood. It's hard to appreciate how nice her ears are when she's not alert.
She looks like a sweetie & is lucky to have found you.
Kate

| From the pics it looks like whoever did the cropping didn't know what they were doing. Way too short of a crop and then it looks like the posting wasn't done. I'd leave the ears alone and enjoy your new girl. She looks like a sweetie. |

| Unfortunately there is hardly any pinna left to the ear to recrop. It's like getting a bad haircut and they chopped off all your hair - there isn't enough hair left to re-cut to make it pretty. There isn't anything that can be done.
Thank you for rescuing her She looks like a sweet girl. Please stick around, you will love this forum

| | Lil Pup | She is a very nice/sweet dog. I will let the ears stay as they are. My daughter likes them anyways. She says they make her look "cute". With one ear up and one ear down. Oh well, hate when people do this SH*T. |

That is the most important.
You are an Angel for taking in this Dober girl. You are teaching your daughter to love, no matter what someone looks like.

I agree with everyone else here as far as the ears go. It is very sad, but she is in better hands now.
Is this your first Dobie?

| You have a great dobe! Look past the crop, it does not matter! She wont love you
any less because she has a flaw. Comparing dobes on this site is tough especially when there are alot of show quality dog owners here. Its like comparing Fords and Mercedes. When and if you come across a pup and want to crop
the ears, you will know what to ask and what to expect. |

| Your rescue girl may have started life as a poor girl, given the situation...but she is very lucky now.
Her face is pretty and with those beautiful eyes, many times these dogs given a 2nd chance surrounded with much love, quickly become more of a treasure than we could have ever asked for.
The smart one know, when they finally have a great life, and act to pull on your heart strings, to keep what they were fortunate enough to fall into.
BTW - I didn't catch your girls name ?
