| | Alpha | close call Not sure where to post this, and it doesn't really need a thread, just wanted to share a scary event this past Sunday.
It was busy at my house, my grandson was busy making a school project with his mom, I was baking cookies, etc etc. My yard is a muddy mess due to wet weather, so instead of taking our dogs outside to potty in the back, we have been taking them out in front. My schnauzer Shata can go out with or without a leash, my daughter's dog can go out without, comes right back in. Jasmine, who has CVI goes out with a leash to help her having some control. All goes well until this night. Shasta shot out the door like a cannon, and in calling her back my Jasmine ran right out behind me, I tried to grab her harness but no luck! She was in the street, screaming to her to come back. I could see headlights, and my dog meeting, I screamed, covered my head and turned. My daughter said, she got hit, but she is up though, she did run back, and has no wounds, or limping anything. The car just tapped her, spinning her around and knocking her off balance. I just melted, I can't explain what jello feels like, but I was shaking from top to bottom. All I could see was losing both my girls in the same night ! We called the vet, and were instructed what to look for, and was told to call or bring her in if she showed signs of pain or stress. As the night progressed, Jasmine was on the sofa and even running inside with the other dogs. So all ended well on this night.
I just wanted to share and remind others of nights like this that can end in tragedy and heartache. We don't usually take the dogs out like this, but due to the yard and being a little later (traffic was way less ) thought a quick potty and a much less tracked up floor as well as paws would be so quick and easy. Thank God for sparing them and reminding me of how much I need and love my dogs... So please, "hug" those you love today, 2 legged and 4. LOL You just never know.. Also, I just want to wish you all a very safe and warm night with a {{{{HUG}}}

| So glad both your girls are okay. It could as you have said, been so much worse.
Personally, I would just shrug off the dirty floors and let them out in the back yard from now on, I know muddy tiles, floorboards, carpets or whatever are a pain but losing your dogs would be far worse.
Hugs to you and yours and I hope this fright hasnt dampened your holiday spirits too much. |

| | Alpha | Thanks and all is ok and Jasmine is doing fine. I just wanted to send a friendly reminder since the holidays are coming. People coming in and out, doors opening people not watching and before you know it, a beloved pet escapes. It happens all to quick and then you have heartbreak. This isn't what happend for me, I just did a stupid thing, but it was meant for Shasta to potty and come right in. I never heard Jasmine coming, and she never attempts going out that way, especially since she is so wobbly now, she just goes and does her business and heads right for the door. I guess she wanted to be with Shasta, I don't know but, it was a freak experience and I can't express how awful it was for me that night.
It just made me realize that with everyone being busy, and coming in and out just how fast stuff like this can and does happen. I just wanted to share my horrible scare to those interested as I know you all love your dogs and cats as much as I love mine.
Shasta is such a spitfire, and minds so well, she also loves being outside, and I don't think I have ever seen a dog get so muddy and nasty as she does. LOL i just got her groomed, with her itchiness didn't want her to roll and dig just to be bathed again so soon, so my brilliant idea almost turned tragic. In fact this whole weekend for me just was sad; the shootings, my dogs, and then I learned my dentist died suddenly. (such a nice man)
Well, thanks for any warm fuzzies cuz I sure needed some after this. |
