Deacon isn't too fond of those big inflatable Christmas decorations. He stares at it like what the heck is that thing?!

Now he is really afraid of my neighbor's incredibly brave cat. This cat will walk right up to him and get nose to nose, and poor Deacon runs behind me and peeks around my legs to see where the cat is...it's hilarious to watch!

I was just about to say that about the farts. Hades just literally raced away from his comfy spot on the rug and looked back at where that sound came from.

That was your butt Hades and thanks for leaving me here with your stink.

He's still looking back as if I did it. Smh.

Well, I know they're not Dobes, but Ilka used to be scared of storm drains. She's still not fond of them, but will at least walk by them without acting like a monster is going to jump out at her. Last year, we walked by someone's yard, and she freaked out at a Christmas decoration. Oh, and she's terrified of T-Max. The cat, that is, not the film.

Leo was spooked by a neighbor's Christmas lawn decorations. They have a "herd" of lighted deer, and she was like "What is that!?!?!?" She's still curious about them, but not freaking out any more. She's also scared of T-Max.

It took about 10 minutes to get Chanel to go near the large round bales of hay when our fields got cut. Sadly they were only there for about a week, so I'll probably have to go through the same thing next year.

She was very funny - ran from the woods to the field like usual, saw the bales & ran back into the woods - still watching and barking.

Of course bathroom doors are terrifying, there is a magic 2nd door that we may escape out of when we go in there

I don't remember the last time I peed in peace, 2 kids, 2 cats (they stick their paws under the door and howl), and Bruce (and before him a lab and mix breed that also thought there was a magic door). It's always a party in my bathroom when I have to pee.

For some odd reason,,.Keno is scared of lighters,, or at least the sound a lighter makes. When I go to the stove to light my incense, he's fine,, but the when I pull out a lighter,, he's in the corner with the cat. GOD FORBID a burglar breaks in with a BIC.

My min pin Is scared of a lighter. But he is because his first owners tried lighting him on fire with one but then stored him in an ice chest and taped it shut to see how long he would live. Hes a rescue

Yeah they were teenage boys trying to "have fun". They never got in trouble. But now we have a great dog because of their ignorance.

We work on Rams' reactivity daily. It took two months for me to be able to walk around the block. When we did, we encountered a home under construction and the company sign was out front. It just happened to be a painted cut-out of a man complete with hat, shirt, overalls, and boots. The man was ten feet tall. Bring on the barking. It took three days for us to get close enough to sniff it. He walked around the back side all confused about the "rest" of the person and lack of scent. Once he realized it was nothing, he looked embarrassed and dismissed it.

Rams and mabel are similair,

watching her figure out "little things" is both sad and humorous...

her ball in the yard after a fresh snow
water bottles..though she's never been sprayed
nail clippers of any kind
any random thing can be a big scary thing to her sometimes, half the time I expect it and the rest of the time I just have to sit back and watch her figure it out like "really!?!?"

My favorite was the camera flash...took a year to get over it

Eva has the same reaction to those white wire frame reindeer decorations that "suddenly" appeared on our normal walk route. She was terrified by a bunch of helium balloons tethered to a fence for a birthday party. Eva actually turned tail and wanted to go the other way! She used to visibly shake when a large UPS, garbage or recycling truck goes by. Slowly she's getting over these fears.

Amazingly, Eva isn't afraid of any other dogs, etc. but Spock is afraid of the "vicious" (sounding) little Pug and Yorkie that are behind the fence at the corner house. He gets very anxious when passing this yard and I have to settle and distract him each time. He has never seen these two "killers", just hears their yappy mouths anytime we pass by-night or day. They either have a doggie door or are kept outside 24/7???

Same with my guy! Homer Claus is fine if he's just hanging around but the minute he decides to sing and dance a bit, my guy feels Homer Claus is deserving of a swift and violent death.

Oh, one more thing. I was walking the dogs on the university campus today, and we were walking directly toward a set of glass doors at one point. That's when Leo saw our reflections. "WHAT!?!?!?" So I let her go up to the doors, and she kept looking for the other dogs. I don't think she ever figured out that there weren't any. (I love her, but she's not the brightest bulb on the tree).

I don't know if this counts as decoration, but my neighbors hung the lower jaw bone of an elk in the tree that Bam usually potties on. Well, it's apparently too terrifying to potty near now so we've been doing what Adara suggested. Seriously though, I thought dogs were suppose to love bones? I've even taken it down and encouraged him to chew on it.

Our first dobe Tanya absolutely hated lightning & thunder.
Once she fell off a rotten lake front dock, and I pulled her up to safety, by the neck.
The fear in her eyes from the first encounter sinking in water, was frightening real.

Second dobe Amy, always disliked lightning & thunder...and peeing in the heavy rain.

Third dobe Kelly, still a young puppy....have to wait and see...he-he.

Okay p8ballmom, could you kindly enlighten us with more details on your shopping trips to department stores with your Dobie Rush!? I didn't realize any store like Nordstom or Macy's was "pet friendly" or is that just in CA?

(I have visions of taking Spock through Neiman-Marcus with him scarfing up expensive ties off the display tables to use as chew toys....)

LOL!

I'm told all Nordstrom stores are dog friendly. Fashion Island in Newport Beach all stores are dog friendly. We been through Bloomingdales, Macy's, Neiman-Marcus and Nordstrom on our shopping trips. The Nordstrom closest to our home is attached mall. We only go to Nordstrom because dogs ate not welcomed inside mall.

Also our local outdoor mall, 50 stores or more, all stores are dog friendly.

Also, many restaurants with outdoor eating areas allow dogs.

The election campaing cars They are so loud! When we're inside, Elza starts barking and I cannot hear anything. When outside, she's scared with loud "noises" and her tail goes down.

Another one is my husband's yell. He's just easy to be surprised ("Wow" or "What!!??") or booed to TV. She jumps up and dashes towards her crate. I'm sometimes scared it too!

Our big brave dobermans! I have a memory of our 1st doberman. Hubby & I were sitting on the stoop watching the full moon come up on the horizon and Annie saw it and went on a barking, bouncing, bluffing moment. She had never seen that before and it was a boogey man!

Wrapping paper rolled up. I guess he doesn't like the sound it makes, or it resembles something of his past life.

Either way, it created a nice 30 minute exercise of 'touch that'

Never look down on someone, unless you are helping them up
