I much prefer the balanced fronts of the dobes from days gone by....way more correct than the overdone fronts of today.
but that is just my opinion.
nice square dobes too..................

| The one at Riverside, CA is my favorite - he looks like the Dobes my grandfather and cousin had at that time... I'm a bit fuzzier about the earlier ones (1950's/60's)... have to see if I can dredge up any of the old photos. Unfortunately, I only have 1 of my grandpa with his Dobe, Lord, in Hamburg, Germany in the 1920's - have to see if I can dig that out too, and scan for you... my project for the winter?

ok, her day was way before most of you where born.............but still if you are into dobes you should do research that goes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back.
in her day Sultana was the top winning dobe out there..........37 all breed BIS - 94 group 1st. - 148 Best of Breeds - winner of 10 specilaties - BB at the National in 1967 and 1968...........
and to think one of our Dt members has photos of her winning her class a long time ago.................. how cool is that!!!

| I know who Sultana is, even tho I was quite young, I do remember her. Not sure which photo is Sultana, tho. If I had to guess I would say the one titled WB La Specialty. I thought Rex Vandev..... handled her, and I am thinking the handler in TopSkipper's photos is not Rex V, but again, I was very young and so my recollection is of a much older man. Of course, back then I thought 30 was ancient. LOL!

if you have a good dobe breed book, in the article about sultana...............the handler in the photos is mentioned.
oh yah, the sultana photo is not the La specialty wb pic.

I went through the pictures until I found one of a bitch that looked like it matched a picture of her in one of my books, but with a different handler. The book gave a list of people that had handled her, and his name was there. The link for the photo had Dick as part of it. Sooo, 2+2 sometimes = 4.
