Having (sadly) worked for Petland as a teenager, I've seen thousands and thousands of BYB/mill AKC blue slips cross my desk. You get to know the "dialect" of BYBs pretty fast that way. Quote:

I dunno, maybe all that
Good to know your panties were never actually twisted, though.
Oh, and btw, saying BYBs often use their own names on their dog's papers is not a "blanket statement," it's just a fact observed by many longtime dog folks.
Rosemary, your name for Leontine cracks me up. We often name rescued doggers with something about where they were found or surrendered.
Ellen, I love Cheers' name, always have--it just has a ring to it, but then again, I like weird and unusual names.
Some of the names I've picked over the years, I end up liking for the longterm, some, not so much. They all always earn a bunch of nicknames, anyway.
Edited to add: LOL LOL. Just noticed this-Or maybe, Summer, the passive-aggressive "reason for editing" in blue, below, that you added to your post, is a clue to your emotional context, as well. OMG, that's some good stuff, thanks.

For example, I originally wanted to name Ilka "Rosehill's Ilka Of Pear Orchard", but "Rosehill" is the registerd kennel name of a Labrador breeder, so I had to change it.

That's what I meant.
Like, in the 80s, for example, there was a black toy poodle used on about a million bitches. He was awesome looking, but still, stud du jour is not just an issue in our breed.
He was Ch. Boot Black Sassafras, IIRC, not looking it up.
So, you probably shouldn't name your rescue poodle with three inch legs, and twelve inch underbite, and two tails: Susie's Sassy Sassafras, you know?
^^^Btw, I am not comparing any dog, in this or any other thread, to such a mess of genetic anomalies. I am also not intending to insult anyone whose dog has "Susie" or "Sassy," or "Sassafras" in their name in any way, shape, or form.
I'm also not intending to offend anyone with a poodle, or any other dog. Or anyone born in the 80s. Or who lived thru the 80s and may or may not have had an 80s hairdo.
Whew. There.

| I had to google Rosehill Kennels after I got the letter from the AKC, telling me that I couldn't use it. I was pretty disappointed, because I had always used it to name my "some day" dogs. Oh well, Pear Orchard Cemetery's not a registered kennel name, and it describes to a T where she came from.
I guess you could google every single word of a name before you send it in.....
