| Doberchests? Hmmm in light of recent discovery, I must ask for pictures of your dobermans' chest markings! The rescue boy doesn't seem to even have any, though it's a lower quality/blurryish picture so he might have like 2 tan hairs or something like that. Didn't think it was possible, so I'm looking for variety on their chest markings
I posted this picture before, but... no markings! Alright, show me yours

| Tessa has fairly large, light chest markings.
Levi's markings were well-defined and a good size/color for his chest.
Here's a side-by-side comparison: Btw, I think your rescue boy is GORGEOUS and having such dark markings just makes him that much more unique and special!

| It looks like your boy does have shadows of his chest markings. Some dobes just don't have much in that department!
I love Kaylee's small chest markings:
Jayne's are bigger...
Ronin's were small too!

| Here are Spock & Eva's chest markings comparison, both same size & shape rust markings. Except for their eye colors and ear crops, they look like they could be siblings. (we mistake them sometimes when inside at night)
There is a DT member that has a Dobie with heart shaped chest markings on their female! (I forgot who) |

You didn't! I haven't posted it yet because I don't have my own pictures of him because he's not with me yet! Wait til middle of December, and then you will see him in all my crappy cell phone picture glory.
And yes, I know he's a rescue and is therefore bound to have "imperfections", I just wasn't expecting what looks like (to me) a complete lack of chest markings... previously thought that was impossible with the coat genetics He could be green with purple polka dots and a bully crop and I'd still think he's beautiful!
Keep the pictures coming guys! I love the variety.

| | Alpha | Sorry, no pictures but over the 50+ years of Dobes I've owned dogs who had small dark markings on the chest and dogs with moderate sized bright markings and have seen HUGE very light markings.
Some rules of thumb about chest markings. Puppies chest markings tend to be large and lighter in color than they will be as adults. Dogs with any degree of melanism tend to end up with very small very dark markings. The dam of one of my dogs had markings that were hardly visible by the time she was 6--when she was 12 you had to have her in bright sunlight to even tell that there were markings on the chest at all.
And there are a few Dobes around (if you search the archives you'll find pictures of a puppy that appears to be solid black) who have virtually no markings--they are all, as far as I know, cases of extended melanism. Even the "all black" puppy had a few pictures that were taken outside in bright light and you could see that in the areas that would normally be rust his black was a somewhat different color than the black on the main body. |
