I've noticed a BIG difference in how fresh the Taste of the Wild food smells when you first open the bag as opposed to most kibbles-TOTW comes in a plastic bag.
| Agreed. I love the TOTW bags - not only are they airtight, but they're pretty!

Very funny Lex!! I just need something that is very air tight so the food can be very fresh. I tried a rubber-maid before and felt like it wasn't air tight, that is why I asked. |

| I am feeding TOTW to my 5 month old puppy. She has a glorious coat and sheds so little that it is almost weird. She is much more glossy and much less gas then when I was feeding her Timberwolf.

Thanks in advance. Opinions are welcome here! | It isn't necessary to buy pre-made Raw. You could just feed some chicken and what ever other meats you can get on sale. Petey eats about 2 pounds a day.....I have purchased chicken for as low as 37 cents a pound. It is not an expensive diet unless you want to spend lots of money on expensive meats, but it isn't necessary.

| I have recently switched to Orijen kibble and mix it with either Innova /Evo or Avoderm canned. Lexie loves it. I usually put a scoop of Orijen in her bowl for breakfast and she even eats it dry. I used to feed Canidae. The only concern I have is Orijen is very high in protein for a 10 month old. Maybe you could mix it with the Canidae kibble.
Good Luck,
Lisa

| I know that the question is predominantly geared towards food suggestions, but it seems odd to me that Suri's hair is thinning on only one area, on one side of her body. Have you had her worked up for any other causes? I know flank-sucking is sometimes seen in Dobermans - could it be compulsive grooming? Or perhaps a dermatologic issue? I don't know - the description of the hairless patch, it's location, and the fact that it's in a single specific area makes me wonder if it wouldn't merit further diagnostics.
By the by, I love the Natura products (Calif. Naturals, Innova, EVO). They're the only holistic-type manufactururer (to my knowledge) that employs a boarded veterinary nutritionist (Dr. Sean Delaney, formerly of UC Davis). But no food works for 100% of the animals that it's fed to. Food is definitely a personal thing.

And it is thought of now, as a genetically predisposed condition rather than an OCD. Runs in families, as well as blanket sucking, etc.

| | Alpha | I am often amused at the debate over food. The first thing we, as owners assume, is that whatever issue we are having is food related. Many times it is environmentally related instead. I guess it's just easier to think food, lol. It is the easiest thing to change after all. I also am constantly amazed at how dogs are categorized as solely carnivores. They are actually categorized "carnivores" as a species, rather than categorized carnivore by diet, alone. Even Panda's (herbivore by nature/diet) fall into the category of carnivorous. Just something to think about.

| A couple months ago we switched Storm to Innova. She really seems to like it and she eats less than before. It could just be me, but she looks better now too. She looks like she has better muscle tone and more bulk.
After much research on DT and the net we had it down to Canidae or Innova. We had leaned more towards Innova then finding a shop right around the corner that sold it did it for us. |
