I personally do not like the current trend with super tall skinny points. Can't say that I hate it, but I sure wouldn't choose it.
Mismatched, yep, that is bad. Lots of bell, not my fave. As far as wide goes, I think it is a matter of proper proportion.
What is aesthetically pleasing to some won't be to all. You gotta live with it for the life of the dog, so it make sense to me to get the crop you want (even super tall skinny pointy crops )and will be happy with for the duration.
Again, my opinion: No crop is far better than bad crop. I happen to like natural ears almost as much as the look of cropped.
OP: To crop sooner is better than later, but please don't base the choice of who does it on price/time. Go for quality or go natural. |

The problem I have with a wide ear is that it makes the dog look like a bat. Not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I think sometimes it's a matter of convenience for the vet. The ears stand sooner so you don't have to contend with an unhappy owner. A nice show crop on a good head is heaven......

| So far so good, in case some were still wondering...
Now that Bronson has his ears done, i realize Jayda DOES have bat ears, and that probably is why her ears where standing up right after surgery. |

And hey, safety note here, please do not leave a choke chain on your girl (well, on either of them) as it's a strangulation and serious injury hazard, esp. when they are playing or the puppy is mouthing on her.
Working at a vet, have seen dogs come in with broken teeth, broken jaws, and, sadly, broken necks, from accidents with choke chains left on.

| | Alpha | I just want to say I read all the posts on this found it interesting. I know this is kinda old now, but would like to add that I had my dog's ears done by the breeder's vet. I like a doberman's ears cropped, I think it makes them look like a doberman but that is just MY opinion. I had a hard time getting one of her ears to stand and was freaking out, you pay for the procedure and then last thing you want to see is a messed up job.
I am glad it all turned out for you, I just wanted to mention that there is a vet Samuel Grant who I think is in Ohio and also breeds dobermans. From what I have read and seen, alot of breeders seem to like his work. Does anyone know of him?
There are alot of cuts on ears from what I have seen, and a personal like or dislike of styles and from a novice you are probably right in saying, wouldn't know a good crop from a bad one. lol
Anyhow Jayda & Bronson I am here to make friends too so glad to meet ya. |
