Doberman headbutt equals

3 stitches in mommy's lip

I look like I got hit in the face by Ali, not a 13 week old puppy...

Many of us have to learn the hard way, it seems.

Rocksie just fractured BF's nose a couple weeks ago with a solid, strong headbutt during play. Then the next night we were sitting out back having a beer and laughing about it and she lost control of a rope toy...it came whizzing through the air and smacked BF in the face mid-drink of his beer. LOL LOL I laughed so, so hard. Thankfully he has the patience of Job and really good sense of humor.

Fi has knocked my front teeth loose and busted my lip so many times I've lost count. Tali gave me a goose egg on my chin several months back and we both got checked out for concussions because of the force of the headbutt.

*sigh*

I kinda feel like a full-face helmet should be included in the puppy packet from breeders. A cheap mouthguard at least.

hahahaha, almost spit out my water reading this. Your BF is a keeper It reminded me that when Eli was younger he could not play with any sort of rope toy because he tossed it so hard. He cracked the glass on the old entertainment center with a whizzing rope toy. Notice I said, "old" as we had to get a new one when we moved. Dobermans! Yup full face mask. Too funny.

Lol that notch on the top of their skulls is pure pain. It reminds me of those old german helmets with the spikes on top. I remember the first time I got hit by Mazzi's battering ram of a skull I saw stars. We've had many heamatomas in our house.

more empathy coming your way... have had multiple friends who have gotten their noses, eye orbit (socket) bones, teeth and cheek bones broken by happy, loving, exuberant young Dobes. about 6 weeks ago, Annie jumped onto the bed and ran to give me one of her very sweet huggy/kissy faces, and slammed her head into the bridge of my nose. i think it was probably slightly fractured, and i had a big lump over my left eyebrow that only finally disappeared about a week ago. ...comes with the territory - get a hockey mask!!

Oh wow! I did not know this was so common!

I cannot believe at 13 weeks, his head is bog enough and strong enough to explode my lip like that... by the sound of it, its only going to get worse...

He for a taste of his own medicine tonight at puppy class when he took on an English bull dog puppy in a headbutt battle lol...

Any other dobe caused injuries out there?

Fiona purportedly broke my finger once when she got excited and tried to spin/zoomie while I was holding onto her collar as I was screwing with her leash. I've had the air knocked out of me when I find myself flat on my back in the grass due to an exuberant Doberman recall, as well as just racing around playing, more times than I know. The various moments of tripping trying to avoid them and falling into a wall; if you're lucky you'll be close enough to cushioned furniture to aim for...

You have a lot to look forward too.

Speaking of zoomies, don't you just hate it when they plant a back foot on top of your own bare foot, and use it to gain traction for a mad dash out the back door.

Toenails + push-off = Ouch!

Head butts, over excited play nips, chewed leashes and shoes and clothes and etc...

Big ole moose feet stepping, stomping, taking off from your feet, dober punches, full on launches from feet away feet first at your face or gut.... have I mentioned I love my dog? lol

I got raw hands teaching mabel down because she'd slap her paws across the tops of my hands each time..she briefly did the same thing to my face to wake me up... that ended quickly!

My husband was washing out dog and had Dartagnan's head just under his. Up comes Dartagnan's head full-boar. My husband's tongue was bleeding so bad! So, that was the FIRST time we learned about the rhino-dobie bump.

I have to laugh. My friend is afraid to bend down to love on Emmie because she has seen what I look like after I have connected with a head butt. And they are SO FAST!

Is there a dobemom abuse line? If there isn't there should be. Just a place to vent and get it out there. I am woken up to a slap across the face with a giant paw every single morning. It almost looks like a trained trick. I can only imagine what goes through her mind. Ok suns up time to wake mom up. Slap. It's ridiculous. No black eyes yet thank goodness but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. I feel your pain. Lol.

Yeah, been there.

Dexter's head butt accident to my nose left me with a broken nose and a $285, 15 minute visit to the doc, only to be told, "Yeah, it's broken all right, and there's nothing we can do. But it's good you came to a specialist, just in case....blah blah..."

Dexter was coming up with the toy, just as I was reaching down to retrieve it from the floor.

He has a brontosaurus head, not a Doberman head. He's got a dinosaur noggin.

I feel for you!

There are several threads on here of Doberinjuries. You're not a Dobermom (or dad) if you don't have several stories! I remember the first time Elke ran full tilt into me and knocked me off my feet. I had a humongous bruise on my thigh for 3 weeks and I was limping for the first few days.

Forgot to add the consistent leg and body bruises from, work!

My fav was a bruise on my calf that was almost like a tattooed paw print..thank you yankee for that one! The back of my calf was a good spot to launch at...much like a fly ball box *sigh*

Thor's Paw Pads feel like 60 grit sandpaper. He barerly needs to touch you to scratch you up. Not that he ever does it barely, no it feels like he puts all of his 90 pound weight behind every "Love Swat" he deals out with his paws. Cleo's paw pads don't feel that rough. I tried putting on lotion with babysocks over night. He wasn't happy about it as you can see but it also didn't help. I sometimes use the dremel on slow to smoothen the roughest part but I don't dare doing too much or long cause I'm afraid of hurting the paw pad.

Ouch! But look on the bright side, you now have a legitimate reason to eat tons of ice cream.
