Lil pup Keno
Keno is real good with the front window and back yard. My yard is gated but also surrounded by trees. There are no alleys where I live, our back yards are connected. The people in the house connected to ours have dislike for dogs, particulary Keno. They throw things in the yard on him (dirty pampers, pop cans, pizza boxes) I've went over and tried to be cordial with them with no avail. I started to get ignorant, but my softee husband talked me out of it.
Ok,, fast forward, with our yards connecting someone was trying to break in their house thru a back window. Keno was going berserk!!!! I looked out, as he normally don't bark, I saw a person or persons out in their yard. I called out, "Hey,, who is that!!! I'm finna call the police!!" I called,, they came, we did a report, the police said it was a good thing Keno alerted me,, AND PUT IT IN THE REPORT.
The next day, Keno and I walked over to the ONCE disrespectful neighbor,, well I walked,, Keno trotted proudly like he KNEW he was the hero. They said they initally didn't like Keno because *I* thought he was special. ,,, but NOW they like him!!! (As if I care)
Mr. Keno James.

Ok.... Well this was about 12 years ago.... I was walking Zeus with my youngest daughter ,she was around 10 years old at the time... So we are walking down the street there is a couple walking and the ask some questions about Zeus (red natural ear) he is on his flexi next to me while talking... As we are walking away my daughter was lagging behind.. Kinda close to the other people,Zeus went to my daughter put his mouth on her arm and pulled her faster towards me... I was in shock he had never touched anyone with his mouth like that before,I always wondered if he sensed something about them? Because I sure didn't

About 16 yrs ago I had a male dobe named Tex. Tex was a big powerful boy, but had never had a reason to be defensive. One nite, I heard a loud slam of a car door about 3 in the morning. I came downstairs and didn't see anyone around, so went back in the house. Tex went to the back door and was barking to go out. I let him out and he raced once around the yard and then hurled himself at my 6 foot fence, bellowing with rage. There was a drunk trying to climb over the fence. He wouldn't leave and was yelling at Tex, so I went in and called 9-1-1. While I was on the phone, Tex started jumping at the back door to get in, and when he came in, he raced to the front door barking viciously. I looked out the window and the male was trying to get the front door open. Tex barked steadily until the police arrived, and at the sight of the first officer he stopped barking immediately. The next day, Tex was entered in an obedience trial in Open and when I threw his dumbell, he jumped and picked it up, but then stood on the other side of the jump looking uncomfortable. When I went to pat his chest, I realized he had a huge swollen injury where he had hit the fence(which he smashed so hard it broke the whole top out of the metal brackets). As a humorous sidenote..the officer arrested the guy and went on his radio to tell the dispatcher that all was in order, but, I had a dog bigger than all the officers put together, and he didn't know why I had called them..lol.
Not a saving "me" story, but a few years later, I was out for a walk with my boy, Zorro, who was Tex's son. I was with a friend and her little timid female Curly coated Retriever Ebony. We came around a curve on the trail, and met a big arrogant male Lab, with no owner in sight. Crap..he came over all tail stiff and hair up after Zorro. Now, Zorro had never had a fight in his life, because, he was a "peacekeeper" dog, so he had to get out of this on his own, as he was about 75 ft away from us. He marched to the nearest bush, lifted his leg, and then proceeded to kick his feet, like a big macho jerk. Well, this lab could not resist the chance to look even more macho, so, as he lifted his leg to cover it, Zorro exited stage right. The lab then focused on poor little timid Ebony..pushing at her and scaring her half to death. She was snapping and making high pitched, obviously panic stricken yaps, and he was pushing her into the bushes, getting more aggressive all the time. We then heard pounding feet running up the trail, and there was Zorro. He ran right into the middle of the two, pushing the lab aside and standing in front of Ebony. He had not risked a fight for himself, but, he was willing to step in for Ebony. Luckily for all of us, the Lab was more macho than smart. Zorro again lifted his leg and then went thru the irresistable paw scraping, and when the lab attempted to lift his leg and cover the spot, Zorro hustled Ebony down the trail. By then, I was close enough to send the lab on his way. Funny Zorro who would do anything for his girls and when I brought Miles into the house he went "For me...u got a puppy for me????" and totally adopted Miles. They were best friends, until Zorro died almost 2 yrs later. I miss his funny comical personality and his courage.
