Very few registered Doberman names are the same as their "Call" name.

My first Doberman was called Sadie and over the years I have run into a lot of other Sadie's.

What name have you heard repeated frequently?

I have heard Sadie a lot - for some reason, it is a popular dog name. Velma has one sister, and I think that is her name. Obviously, I did not call Velma by any part of her registered name "Amy" just did not seem like the name for her.

Gun type names like Ruger, Magnum, Remington........... good thing "AK47" just does not lend itself to being a name LOL!

"Scary" names like Satan, Medusa, & Demon

The aformentioned Greek/Roman God & Goddess names: Zeus, Apollo, Athena, Hera

Goofy names like Scooby ( I have a Velma, so I'm guilty)

I think the best people to ask this question of would be those who run Doberman rescues - they see a lot of the same names over and over. I know that sometimes they will take a name like "Satan" and try to change it to something similar .... say "Simon" because it is just a little more friendly sounding - LOL!

Oh God, definitely the Greek names ... done to death.

Max, Luke, Shadow, Heidi, Tara, Raven, Sam, Annie, Maggie, Molly, Ruby, Onyx are a few that come to mind. I'm just basing that on 10 years + of reading various Doberman groups and boards, not saying I don't care for them.

I remember a thread on Doberworld years ago about all the Lukes there were on the board at the time. They all had nicknames to keep them straight, usually based on where they were from like Alaska Luke. For some reason, that's the one I remember most. That, and the one that was in my first litter at the time - they called him Smarter-Than-A-Pig Luke because there was a pot-bellied pig in his obedience class and obviously, Luke was doing better than the pig. ;-)

I have had a Max and a Juno and we used to have a Zeus living opposite us so God and Goddess names were used when it came to naming my current lot, although the members of this forum had a hand in naming Mischa(prounounced Mish-ka)(I think it had a lot to do with Kratty and his love of Russian names for Dobies, although quite a few people voted for that one)

I'd say in our rescue they have used everything so they run out of names, lol. In our rescue I've heard, playboy, possum, amadeus, celeste... a bunch of other random ones. For my fosters I had a Norman; oh and a maggie which is one of the more popular names in our rescue. I personally like more unique names then the average pet owner for my dogs but I wouldn't have minded a greek one if they wern't so common. When I worked in a groomshop I got used to what was a common dog name and Sadie was def very common. Our most frequent dobe customer was named Dobey.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name "Fifi" for a dobergirl.
Odd trivia, when I was 12 and lived in an apt w/my mom, a guy downstairs had a dobe he wanted me to handle for him at shows-LOL *shudder* I was not a fan of dobes at the time, 1976...her name was "Sadie".
Looking back I feel sorry for her she spent a lot of time on his tiny back apt porch and she barked a lot:(

We have a girl the rescue named "Nina", we kicked a few names around & decided that the name fit her as she was a bit of a delicate flower when she arrived & has a chiseled face.

My dobe's name is Raven, which I think is pretty popular for dobes. I agree with Thor and Zues being the most popular though. I have come across many Thor and Zues dobes. My next boy's name will be Cash I think. Or Kiah or Kenzie for a girl.

I almost named my daughter Paisley, but my family wouldn't permit it. You never know, it may crop up in one of my future dogs!
