| Himalayan chew trick Hey there,
I was working at a NW Companion Pet Fair today in the delta/pet partners booth with Silas, and on the way out I saw folks there from the Himalayan chew company. My dogs love these things, so I went to see if they were doing any special pricing.
I learned a trick that I had never heard and wanted to share! You know how the dogs get to the end and you have to take away the nub so they don't swallow a large piece? Well it turns out that if you throw the chunk in the microwave for 40 seconds or so, it puffs up and softens, and when it cools you can give it to the dogs. I'm definitely going to try it - always seems like such a waste...
Has anyone here tried that before? I'll do it next time and come back with a report. |

Thanks Bean!

| Are the antlers very messy? Seems like they'd be nice and sturdy. I bought some Healthy Edibles for Brandy and they didn't last very long at all, plus they were super messy! Little bits of chewie all over the place. I am starting to make her chew only on a certain towel that I put down on the floor, but she's not always very cooperative and wants to roam around and hide it.

| the antlers are not messy at all, they can be expensive but one antler piece has lasted Odin a month when a Himalayan chew about the same price would only last Odin about a week at the most.

Thor's handler bought one at a show for me, and they both love it. It seemed like they took most of the middle out quick, and i was hoping it would last longer. A big one was only $16 though, much cheaper than the pet store ones, and twice the size! |

| I get the Himalayan chews from a little specialty store that sells bird seed and gourmet dog food. I've also seen the antlers there, so I'll have to pick up one next time I go.

| the Himalayan dog chew will last a while if your dog is not a power chewer. But Odin can get through a XL Himalayan dog chew in a few days, it was not worth the price for how long it lasted. So I tried the antler and I paid 27 bucks but it has lasted about a month now so way worth the price for me. I think it cleans his teeth better as well and is less messy.

| Are those antlers flavored, or do they have flavor to them? I wonder if Chevy would be interested in one.

| Ha I wanted to get antlers for Torque but my BF hunts and he told me not to because he didn't want Torque getting any ideas about any bucks he might shoot or the skulls that he has. Haha! I just never have gotten them because the only ones I ever seem to find are like 4 inches long and I'm pretty sure Torque would swallow them whole. I just got him a GIANT cow bone and that has been lasting him for a long time now. I think I might try the antlers because Torque is smart enough to know what he is and is not allowed to chew on. He doesn't chew on anything that is not handed to him. Where do you find bigger antlers? |

| Thor and Trinket love their antler, it's about 8 inches long and was only $16 I think. I had my breeder/handler get one for me at a show she went to. They have them at Petsmart, but they were small, and really expensive so I wanted to try a cheap one in case they didn't like it. The lady that sold it to my handler said that since it was their first time chewing one, to start with one that is split down the middle. They can find the marrow easier and figure out how to chew it faster. Mine had no problems chowing down on it, and now they play musical bone and constantly take it from each other. I need another one!! Best part, no mess and doesn't stink!!
Sorry to derail the thread from Himalayan chews. |

| as for flavors its deer, moose, elk, etc. I bought my antler from a local boutique shop. Petco has them but for way more expensive to what you can get them for online. I got Odin a XL and he had it for about a month and I can see him having it for another month in a half or so.

| I just got "thanked" for this, and I realized I never got back to you all with a report - it works! 40 seconds in the microwave, it puffs up, I let it cool, and the dogs can then chew on the end. It's softer, so they go through it faster, but it's not nearly as wasteful. Makes it smell even more smoky, too. |
