| Two males???? Hey Everyone, I have a 8 month old male and this summer we are wanting to get another male. I have heard that having two males is not a good idea because they could fight alot. If anyone has advice I would love to hear it! Thanks. |

| Hello, welcome from Virginia!
Please do not get another male. They will most likely end up fighting a lot. You could go with a female, but your puppy is still very young. I would wait until he's 2 or get an adult rescue.

| Welcome from Ontario Canada.
Advice - don't get another male Doberman. Male on male aggression is a serious issue with this breed and should not be taken lightly.
Good for you however for asking before assuming

| No reputable breeder, shelter, or rescue would give you a male since you already have one. If they are willing to give you another male, and say it's not a big deal, that's a huge sign to look elsewhere. |

| If you've never pulled two adult Dobermans off each other you have no idea what you're potentially toying with.
You couldn't pay me enough money to house two adult male Dobes together. JMO.

| I have a Female & Male Dobe & a Male Lab The Lab is VERY submissive and we still have jealousy problems, despite being raised together... You may think things are great at first but once they mature about 2-3 things WILL change and I wouldn't want to subject anyone to the juggling act and constant supervision we go through!

| On a Side note for the OP My Father's dog (Dobe) and Our lab were raised together and were best friends. Once we moved Riddick in things changed. They both do fine outside our home with other males & at the dog park but once in a while "Rough Play" goes a step further which has led us to separate them unless both my husband and I are in the room, both dogs are also neutered and on there own not very dominant, so it just goes to show you how things go from play to ---im going to rip your jugular out

| Uuuhhh yeah, it is not so much them fighting a lot, as them trying to kill each other whenever they get the chance to get together.
Separating to dobes is like trying to pull two buzzsaws apart and they don't hear you or even know you are in the same world as them. |

| No problems usually until they hit maturity about 2-3 years old then you love both of them and have to play Russian Roulette the rest of their lives no fun.Not worth it in my opinion does not seem to make any difference if they are neutered or not its hard wired in their brains. Yes there are some people out there that luck out and have no problems but it can change in a heart beat, some people can read their dogs very well. |

There are responsible members on this forum with multiples males who have bought from good breeders or are rescue fosters/adopters. You can't paint all owners, breeders, and rescues who work with responsible people with the same brush. |

| I have two males, they get along fine now. But when they were both going through those teenage years it was difficult. If I would do it all over again, I would have gotten a female.

| I think with my Nexus it would not have mattered if I got a male to go with her, she is still pushy and bossy and well .. a bitch! lol .. I dont have 2 males I do have 2 females, they co exist peacefully though I have noticed Bella will not tolerate Nexus's crap as easily as she used to. She will be 2 in Feb. Nexus will be 3. They do not fight and have a good respect for each other when they get too rough or too lippy. It is instant remorse and cuddling with each other.

I have had two bitches get in a fight around that age and it was as brutal as any males fighting. Just a word of caution. |

I know that your Stella son is--and at his age he'll get along with anyone but he's only 7 months--I see a couple of his brothers regularly and they are very sweet. I also own his great granduncle (Stella's fawn uncle) who is a male that does get along with other males but if the other two are also Dobes I don't know that I'd be counting on peace continuing beyond adulthood for the puppy.
Males of some breeds are more likely to get along without problems than others. I had an intact Australian Shepherd for years along with intact male Dobes but for most people the whole process of keeping more than one male is very "iffy" at best. |

| We would not do the 2 males again. Neutered or not. Sometimes it does work out. It depends on the dog and the owners. We have been lucky. But you will always and should be cautious when they are together. Most of the time if you are able to read your dogs you can head off any problems. Never leave them alone together. We never let play get too rough. We redirect them to their toys or do some obedience work with them. Then go back to play. |
