| Lost Doberman The Day Earth Stood Still - Today is that day.
This morning while walking my 2 Dobes 1 of them noticed something afar. He started pulling. Before I could correct him "POP". I had the leash attached to the wrong part of the collar. It was attached to the loop that holds his identification tags. He took off running as his tags fell to the ground. I chased him 2 blocks (1 Doberman in hand yelling his name down the blocks) Nothing. He didn't even glance back. After 2 blocks I couldn't run anymore. By then he was out of sight. I walked around the neighborhood for 3 hours.. Nothing.. I posted flyers all around the neighborhood with his tattoo # pictures etc . I also posted an ad on craigslist. Nothing. I called animal care & control however due to recent budget cuts they are closed on Sundays. I reported him lost on their website & now i'm just waiting. I've searched outside all I can & now at this point all I can do it wait. I called every precinct in my area however the minute you mention dog - They seem 2 care less..
Please keep me in your thoughts - I feel so empty @ the moment |

| I'm so sorry. Such a nightmare.
Can you return to where you last saw him and leave an item of your clothing there?
Do you have friends and family who can drive around the area and help you search for him?
If he isn't back by morning, try asking your local utility companies for assistance--ask meter readers to keep an eye out for him and also the local postal carriers--believe me, those folks notice new dogs around, and esp. loose dogs.
Put up as many fliers as you can, too.
Take your own thumbtacks and post them in vets' offices, feedstores, grocery stores, anywhere they will let you.
Prayers for your dog's safe return.

| Thanks Everyone. He is tattooed & microchipped. I put his tattoo information on the flyers. I am actually headed back to make more to turn into the vets tomorrow when they open. My other Doberman keeps walking around smelling things and whining. Its driving me crazy - Just makes me more depressed |

| Hoping for a speedy return of your buddy. Maggie dog ran away the first time I took her to my parent's house in the Chicago suburbs. It was pretty much the worst feeling ever so I feel for you. If it's any consolation, Maggie found her way back and I found her sleeping next the garage in the morning. I was a teary, snotty mess and she was looking for her food bowl wondering what I was blathering about! |

| I had a dog that got lost twice, for a week each time. And before we had microchips. Both times I had just moved, and both times she jumped out of a window in the house. (Dogs just aren't always smart.)
I am so sorry you have this to deal with.
What I did that worked: All that you've mentioned regarding flyers, searching, searching, searching. And don't stop searching!
Place ads in every newspaper, Craigslist, you name it. ANYPLACE you can post a lost ad. Why? Because, even though it took a week, what my dog finally did the second time is boldly walk into the kitchen where a very nice lady was scrubbing the floor and lick her on the ear. The dog was a lot further from home than I would have guessed she could have survived; several really large and busy streets and a couple miles away. The nice lady saw my Lost ad. She would have kept the dog otherwise.
I happened to live in a nebulous area where a block this way or that would change which shelter the dog would go to if she was picked up.
I personally visited EACH of those shelters EVERY single day they were open. I walked the kennels looking for my dog and I asked at the counter to see the dead animal pick up list.
Why this is important: They get to know you quickly. When the COUNTY shelter picked my dog up, they CALLED the CITY shelter. The next day, when I got to the City shelter, they told me the County shelter had her. And that was true.
Of course make sure your microchip info is up to date in case your dog is scanned.
I am really hoping that your dog's right ear's missing piece helps her to be found and identified quickly! That kind of anomoly really can be helpful in these circumstances. (My dog was a black Standard Schnauzer. You just hardly ever saw black Standards then.)
Do not give up. Expect to be short on sleep and pretty exhausted while you search.
And I'll light the red candle for lost things. SO SORRY! I know that deeply sick in the pit of your stomach feeling and am SO SORRY!

| I'm SO sorry about your dog! Sounds as if you're doing all the right things and you've already gotten some great advice. I did what you did once....attached Major's leash to the wrong loop. He broke in on one of the busiest streets in our town. Could have been a disaster, so I know exactly how you feel. I'm really confident you'll find your pup! Don't give up hope.

| I'm so sorry. I hope he's found and returned to you quickly - safe and sound.
Please keep us updated.
ETA...Does he know the area he took off in pretty well? Is he pretty familiar with it? Is it part of a normal daily routine? Maybe if it is and you are in the same place every day he'll find his way back there around the same time tomorrow? Just trying to think of hopeful thoughts.

| Let me add to the above advice:
1) Ask neighborhood children to keep an eye out for him and let them know there's a reward for info leading to his return.
2) Contact delivery services such as UPS and FedEx and give flyers to the drivers on your route.
3) You will be contacted by pranksters and scam artists. You will also be contacted by people offering their services to locate your dog for a fee. Some of these people sincerely want to help. However...I don't know the laws in your state, but in mine, one must have a private investigator's license issued by the State in order to be a professional pet locator.
4) Find someone with a tracking dog and see if they can pick up his trail. Some handlers do this for free, with the understanding that the owner of the lost pet will make a donation to an animal welfare charity.
5) Distribute flyers to groomers, boarding facilities and pet shops (the "finder" may try to sell him to a pet shop).
6) Attend low-cost vaccination clinics to see if someone shows up with your dog. Also, distribute flyers there.
7) This one is tough, sorry. Find out which city department picks up dead animals, distribute flyers to the staff and let them know there's a reward for him, dead or alive.

| I posted on here a month ago about me needing a vacation from my kids. After rescuing my second Doberman I was at a point where I wanted to pull my hair out. I can honestly say I regret saying that. Funny the chewed couch, the accidents, the 6am wake up calls.. etc - I would give my all to experience them with him again. |
