Does anyone use one of these? Is there one brand you would recommend? I am wondering if Stormy, the heat seeker, might like one of these and thereby give me the odd moment of bed space where she is not whining to go under the covers.... :) She is not a chewer and I would only use it with me in the room.

We used the Lectro Kennel, too. We used it with a timer so that it was only on for about an hour after going to bed. Now that Vinae is bigger, I just use a fleece kennel liner and cover her with an old blanket. She loves it and stays toasty. Of course the house is rarely colder than 62 F degrees.

The Lectro Kennel has a wire wrapped electric cord. I covered this with heavy duty "cord keepers" for computers from Radio Shack. Then, I wrapped everything with electrical tape. While she was a puppy I checked nightly for teeth marks because I knew it would take her a while to get through all that cord wrapping, but as a bigger puppy it is not such a worry.

The heating from the pad is incredible, without being too hot. But again, I only warmed the bed and had it go off after an hour or so. Good Luck!

I read a bit about the external thermostat and most said it wasn't needed.

I was shocked to read that this is used outside, but I guess it is better than not heating a kennel and hopefully they weren't talking about dobies...

It's not something she will be asked to sleep in, just want it to be a more attractive option perhaps....she jumps on and off the bed all the time because I disturb her with my sore back flip/flop...

It looks pretty flat so I may have to put it in something to make it cozy, don't have an extra half crate or do I Carson???...

Just a follow up, this thing is really hard. Like a sheet of plywood. Can you guys using this tell me how you made it comfy, plus providing warmth?

I threw a dog bed on top of it, but it really doesn't have the power to heat through that.

I guess I was expecting a more flexible mat type thing.

Oh there's no wires DV, it is industrial strength, LOL..and she does wear pj's. It's just that she is on and off the bed all night, and does try to stretch out on the floor but then she gets chilled and tells me to move over again.

She really was thrilled with me giving her a spot to call her own, but I just thought if it was warm, she'd stay there longer and I could get some sleep.

Yah, I know, who owns who here.....

I'll maybe try a thinner dog bed, maybe a donut one would be better so she could curl up.

Are you sure she jumps back to you because she gets chilled?
Maybe she wants to be closer and cuddle? ;)

I just bundle my 2 up in their Cozy Horse double layer fleece coats every night. They would be shivering big time if not because we keep it 60 at night. They also each have a double layer of dog bed because our hardwoods are cold. To make the double layer I stack 2 of the huge Costco round beds. They can curl up and make a cozy nest in the middle of that fluffy deep pile. No dogs on my bed - I can barely sleep with myself. I have restless legs and toss all night even with meds. Luckily my hubby is one of those people who can sleep through a hurricane taking the roof off.

P.S. I have one of the electric "panels" - you can't call it a bed because it is hard - for my semi-feral outdoor cat. It is in an enclosed wooden box that he sleeps in all winter on my front porch and I cover it with a fleece cover. The heat is important to him because he is at least 14. He chooses to sleep in there all winter even though the bed is not all that cushy. BTW, I think it is a safety factor why the wires have to be encased in the panel.

I have seen a heated cushy bed at the Invisible Fence store. You might check it out online on their website.

Dillon hates heat and will lay on the cool floor most of the time. The only time he will accept being covered is when in a very cold tent.

My small dogs however would never leave a heated bed if they had one:)

I'll chime back in. When I used this bed for Vinae I just put a light comforter (cheap bed in a bag type-twin size) over the Lectro-kennel and the warmth does travel through. Then I covered her with a light blanket, sort of enveloping her in heat. I worried about overheating when really young, but she quickly showed there was no need to worry. Again, I used a timer to turn off the heating unit after a couple hours.

I did this for my MinPin and she burrows through whatever I have between her and the heat to lay flat on the hard surface. This is why I got the small one a furry fleece "bag"...she loves it.
