Strange behavior

My 10 month old male dobe is getting into the habit of backing up into me. If I am standing he will walk up to me, turn around and stick his butt in my knee. If I am sitting he does the same thing sometimes even trying to sit on my knee.

I cannot figure if this is dominance thing or a way to show affection. He does not show any other dominance behavior, I am very much the leader. Very strange, does anyone else have a dobe that does this? What do you think he is trying to say?

Thanks.

I have seen this type of behavior bwtween my chi mix Toby and Titan. Toby has been challenging his position here lately (he marked on Titan's bed & marked on the living floor 2 days ago). I have observed, on several occassions, Toby walking up to Titan, turning around and backing into his face (Titan is stretched out on the floor). Titan of course pays no attention to him. I found this behavior really odd but thought nothing of it until I started seeing more dominant behavior from Toby. Lately, Toby has taken it up a notch and humping Titan.

I've banned Toby from the couch or the bed. I no longer allow him to walk on his flexi while on walks. I'm making him sit/stay before I put down his food bowl. It's only been a few days of this but I haven't seen any of this dominance behavior so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Nissa does the same thing to us - she turns around and backs her rear end into us. We think it's because she just wants her butt scratched.

I think your boy just wants a good ol' fashioned booty-rub.

Most, if not all of my Dobes did this.
They just want to sit in your lap.

Merlin was the odd one...she'd back up to you and sit squarely on your feet.

She did this to my mom when she visited my house one time and it scared my mother to death....Merlin didn't get off her feet the whole time she was there.

I told mom it just meant that she liked her but I don't think mom was overjoyed by that....

Most Big Dogs cannot stand on their own four feet they have to lean on you to hold their selfs up, Human = Leaning Post. As far as the backing up into you just wants a butt rub/scratch no dominance issues.
Me thinks their is so much written about Dominance issues and Separation Anxiety some see it in their dogs when it does not exist. Some try to Dominate their dogs when they think the dog is trying to dominate them the dog may just be,being a dog. Some do too much heavy handed so called training with puppies. Puppies are a blank slate you can do more with honey than vinegar.

Lexy has done similar things to me before, as far as sitting on my foot... it happens usually when we are waiting for Candy to come in from a potty break ( I really don't think she was paying attention to where she sat). It suprised me at first because her nub went right between my big toe and 2nd toe... she didn't seem to mind..LOL

Oh goodness my girl does this all the time! I think its an adorable trait of the doberman they love to be close to you and whats closer than sitting on your lap/feet/knee ect. Its love, not a dominance thing.

When Ali does this, she want her hips rubbed. She'll even hike a leg so you can rub the inside of her big ole' thunder thighs.

I agree this is just something seen in the velro Dobe. I love it! Sweep is the first one I have had that constantly comes in between my legs - from behind - to stand for a head/neck scritch. If she ever grows up, maybe we will try free style. LOL

My Dax used to do this all the time. She just loved her butt scratched especially the section right on top of her tail. Baron doesn't do this. He puts his head in your hand so his chin and neck gets scratched. They all have different parts they like scratched or petted. The common thread is that they all want to be touching you. Thus the name "velcro dog".
