I just switched to Taste of the Wild. I'm starting Yogi off with the fish blend. Yogi's having trouble pooping because his stool is hard as bricks. Is this common?
raw- chicken leg quarters chicken liver, heart, necks, backs lamb rib-chops,(bone -in) veal, egg, calf liver, cottage cheese, yogurt, beef(ribs) I will be working in whole fish later on.
Hayden- Chicken soup/ Pro plan Sen Skin (switch between the 2)
Zak- TOTW mix the different flavors together
Tango- Wellness Fish Sweet Pot, Chicken soup, TOTW (Switch every few months)
I fed Iams Puppy formula for a while. We started her on Wellness, but it quickly became clear to us that it was too rich for her as a little pup. Then we switched to Iams, based on the assumption that since we got a sample from the vet it would be great food. Nope. She was OK on Iams but not great - it's a very grain-heavy, and therefore low-quality, kibble. You might also want to think about how long you have him on any puppy formula, no matter which brand. There was recently a discussion here about that...let me see if I can find the thread.
Anyway, based on lots of recommendations from folks here on DT, we then switched to Purina Pro Plan Selects. First the Salmon & Rice formula and then (after a mix-up at the pet supply store where momma picked up the wrong bag by mistake) switched to the Turkey & Barley formula. Tess likes it and has done really well on it.
However, I'm now considering a switch to The Honest Kitchen, a dehydrated raw diet. I like the idea of feeding raw, but I can barely plan a meal for myself and hubby...let alone think ahead for a weeks worth of meal planning for the dog.
I just found a new food called TLC and it's delivered to my door, can't go wrong there, so far I am very happy with the food and the results! I also feed them free range lamb that I get from a friend who's a sheep rancher and they get veggies and stuff when I am cooking. Sunday is usually raw bone day for their teeth.
As far as commercial dog food, Blue Buffalo
I also feed Bailey about 1 1/2 cups of scrambled eggs as well as some chicken when I cook up one of mine.
The eggs scare me a bit because I am convinced that when he eats that he grows right in front of me.
I feed Vera "Natural Balance" which is LID, and advise people to feed their dogs grainless food ad well.
Also some veggies and fruits for vitamins.
